COMON RICHIE
I feel Richie has lost confidence in himself and it doesn't help with us lot keep going on about him.
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

He's played 19 games for us, that's a very long bad patch, if you want to call it that. He's weak in defence, and poor in attack (one try in 19 games, for a fullback, speaks for itself). I haven't seen that he has anything to offer, based on his form for us.

Am I right in thinking it was Brian Noble who virtually pushed Ashton out of league and into Union and replaced him with Withers and now Withers. Says a lot really.

I also never remember many saying give Ashton time when he missed tackles even though he was excellent in attack.

I think you are rewriting history here. Ashton went to earn mega-bucks we cold not match in a nutshell.

I don't think people got on his back to a great degree until he looked likely to be leaving and then decided he was off (with the shirt incident). In the previous season he was given the leeway by the majority - because of his attacking prowess. That break he made (and the pass he gave Calders) v Leeds was one of the best moments of the season. A great pity he left.

I can't see Mathers making a break like that but I think its obvious he is going to be here next year so it will go one of two ways:

1. He will have been given enough rope to hang himself.
2. He will improve.

Given he will be here I hope its no. 2. I have more time for Mathers who despite his failings tries hard than I do our coach - who will also be here next year.

Both in the last chance saloon!

The most worrying stat is the 1 try in 19 games. He has got to improve on that but lets not forget Richards has hardly been a try machine when playing full back and no one wants rid of him. In fact despite Richards not much better strike ratio as a full back some people would give him the job full time.

I think that was a financial decision, mainly, and IMO a correct one, if the figures were true regarding what Northampton were offering.

I did, several times. I was the one who always said that with some good defensive coaching, he could have been the next GB fullback.

I agree it's worth 2 trys at least to the smelies.

going back to constantly knocking him and other players for that matter.
If you pay good money for a service on your car or a job done in your house and it's not done properly. You have a right to make a fuss and complain.
To my way of thinking ( And i will probably be corrected on this).
If a Player is not performing to his full potential we have a right to complain, like i have said he was great at leeds, but has been blooming awful here thus far. I wait and hope to be proved wrong. Ou money after all does go towards their pay.
If its a confidence thing he needs to take measures to regain it and the coach should also see this and help him.
Lets hope he has a good year next year and if not sorry he'll have to go.

Well thats another nights pay for doing bugger all.Waste of space waste of money. :(
At 15k he's excellent value, we should play all the kids (7k each) and the team would start to be "real"value.

In fact lets go to St. Pats, St. Judes, Rose Bridge etc. and line up the guys that will play for glory and we will have a team of Wiganers with pride in the shirt all triers giving value for money
