Re: Why can Noble not motivate...
The problem with this debate about Noble is I think some people can't see the paradox right in front of their eyes.
How is it a team that has had a season like ours which I firmly believe was the worst season I have watched in over 20 years, is 80 mins away from the grand final?
We shouldn't be anywhere near it but we are.
The answer to this is I think is obvious. It's the way the competition is structured. Get in the top six which clearly doesn't take a great deal given our record and you have shot at winning just four games (if you finish outside the top 2) to win the whole thing.
The question is what or who is motivating the team to try and win these four games?
I'd like to know what has changed because the tactics seem better, the players seem far more motivated and they actually look like a team.
It's great to be in this situation but you have to ask why have we had to put up with the league season we had and if Nobby has suddenly found the means to get the team to play why has it taken until now? It certainly can't be called a plan all along to do this.
It's very paradoxical that for 27 rounds we are all going mad at the way the team plays then all of a sudden the GF is a possibility. :eusa16:

Re: Why can Noble not motivate...
I want to know why our coach could not motivate the players for nearly a full season and yet our owner insylting the players at the fans forum manages to do so in an instance. It is as if they were being demotivated not motivated until they were told they were not fit to wear the shirt.Nobby`s Girl wrote:Why can Noble not motivate the team?
CP, just to pick the latest 2 games out of the play-offs, Win against Bradford and Win against Catalans, 2 great games and 2 brilliant results. Personally i couldnt ask for anything more from our team out of them 2 games.
However, what "more" motivation would you have wanted for both them games?
I will use a cliche and say lets take it one game at a time. We had some good fortune v Cats. AS Trent says we need to play far better to beat Leeds.

Its an absolute joke that we have a crap season then beat Bradford who were diabolical, then we beat Cats who before beating warrington (who were diabolical), had been beaten by Wakefield and harlequins... and suddenly all these people who have moaned about performances all year think the sun shine's out of Noble's backside when in actual fact if Bradford and Cats had played anywhere near as well as they have done at times this year, even if we had beaten them both we would have been so knackered after playing 2 tough games we would have been destroyed at Headingley... So did Noble plan for this outcome?
Don't get me wrong Wigan have clearly played better over the last few weeks and the commitment and organisation has been there but this has clearly coincided with a drop in form at warrington and Bradford who could both have overtaken us. The main question for people who are now praising Noble all of a sudden is: next season would you prefer to watch a team which turns up every week and play their hearts out or another frustrating hit and miss season like this year and last?
We have a good chance at Leeds as their form in the second half of the season has been nowhere near as good as in the first. We could make it to the Grand Final but this would be more through good fortune than good judgement on Noble's part
Gareth Thomas before his first game: "You wanna spend 10 mins getting smashed up by these guys..Big dudes here.."
Re: Why can Noble not motivate...
Hold on....
I do not like Noble and think he is over-rated. However, the way we dispatch of Catalans over there was excellent. We were not lucky we just blew them away in the second half like we did against Bradford and were the betetr team v Saints.
C'mon credit where credits due.

Catalans played as well last week as they have for the majority of the season, what won us the game was the first 15 minutes, which totally demoralised them, and then, having the stamina and fitness levels to wipe them out in the second half. Nearly every team in SL that had to defend like the lads did last week would lose in the second half because the energy used in defending your line cannot be replaced.
Great effort by everyoneinvolved in the game.

Re: Why can Noble not motivate...
Isn't there a clause in the Salary Cap regarding winning bonusus for CC.GF I read somewhere if you declare at the beginning of the season these amounts they do not count on the salary cap maybe they are motivated by money.
My opinion is that the return of Hock and a marked improvement in the form of Fielden and Feka and the inclusions of Smith and Phelps ,Higham has upped his game somewhat [what a shame he could not stay at the club]with Calderwood getting game time the team has got confidence again.
Edited missed the big one off
Barrett has decided that he wants to go home on a high and is playing out of his skin .

Re: Why can Noble not motivate...
Were a couple of days before our biggest game of the season after 3 great performances and you get people who think, i know i'll start a thread on how crap noble is.
What is the point, we have just won 2 do or die matches and are 80 mins from the GF and peple are moaning. I think some "supporters" of this club would rather Wigan lose every match and play crap just so they can get there weekly moan in.
Put a dummy in, put your cherry and white tinted specs on and enjoy it!! ( oh and try supporting the team)
