Mr Hanley has a magic touch about him; he breeds believe in players and his professionalism and desire to win along with his ability to read and coach a team is out of the top draw.
It has been said on more than one occasion that it is him who laid the foundation to the success that is seen by
St Helens today.
A friend of mine who played under Hanley at St Helens told me he brought training regimes to the club along with a ethos of how to play the game like no one else could. If it came about him having a chance of coaching Wigan I would grab it with both hands and everyone else’s.

A better proposition than the rug rat at Wasps RU though, that many on here want.highland convert wrote:Am I missing something? GB coach 94 one win and two gubbings, A league title with stains a div 2 victory and he is the be all and end all of coaches. Might have been an all time great as a player but as a SL coach in a game that has moved on, I doubt it. Maybe as a second coach to get up to speed but as a replacement for Nobby you are dreaming,

Why? Noble's tactics are so far behind the times its untrue.highland convert wrote:Am I missing something? At least Hanley wouldn't be claiming all is well after games like Huddersfield. He would be far more of a motivator than Noble so even if he is not exactly up to speed with the modern game (though why you think this I am not sure anyway) he can't be any worse than Noble in this regard we may see an improvement.
That said if we were to get an ex player I'd love it to be Edwards but Hanley is a far more realistic option.

Not a chance this guy will be allowed back at Wigan
Yes hes a ledgend but he's a strange guy
he messes people about, he caused many problems at Doncaster and Wigan getting hanley would only bring problemos

He caused no problems whatsoever at Doncaster. He had issues with the Saints board.
Re: Ellery Hanley?
Hanley ( The BLACK PEARL) my wfies as this on her shirt is an alltime legend
play second fiddle to Noble -no way
Noble should play second fiddle to the Great Man
I doubt if he will come back to Wigan
