correct me if i'm wrong which i probably am.
Yes you are wrong . Irish passport or Smaoan passport you are still classed as overseas and that includes this season when the limit was 10 overseas players
The only player who gets out of this one is TL as he was given "federation trained" status (due to how much RL he played here while young or some such reason). Which is why I didn't include him the list of overseas players I gave:
Richards
Riddell
Phelps
Carmont
Bailey
Feka
Smith
All those are overseas players by the new rules. TL and Hansen are not despite both being foreign internationals.
So as I said with the quota dropping to 8 then we can only have one more overseas recruit next year whether he comes from Samoa, NZ, or any EC country via Australia, France or anywhere else.

After Bradford's challenge of those rules, to gain "dispensation" for Simon Finnigan, hasn't then been a case of at least one other club threatening legal action against the rules in order to gain exemption for yet more players? :doz: (sorry cannot remember which team)
If this is the case, surely the rules are now defunct as they currently stand?

Those are still the rules. Bradford were whinging about the latest compromise that happened a few weeks back as that was too late for them to re-sign centre Evans. However those changes have allowed them to re-sign Tadulala as a none quota player.
Had he signed for us he would have counted as an overseas player because the rules state certain players like him can be given another contract at their current club but once that expires or if he leaves the club any such dispensation goes away.
If you read the on-line Bradford Argus paper (their equivalent of Wigan Today) you often get comments from their chairman Hood moaning about the overseas quota rules. It seems to be something he has inherited from Caisley who I hated with a passion for just that reason.
These rules have been put in place for a reason and clearly Hood like Caisley doesn't give a stuff about that.

Until the RFL get sued under EU working regulations??
Thats a real possibility and will also mean that the cap will get challenged. I do think 1 of the Catalan players is going to take action if hes not taken off quota.

Which player is that? One of them was in the press a while back about him being a quota player and as far as I know its been accepted he is.
In any case I wish the clubs who actually agreed to these rules would stick to them. The quota rules are good for the game here and will mean at Wigan we will have a real advantage as we produce a lot of players.
No player can demand a job at any team so any player who becomes a quota player and does not get a new deal at his existing club should not be able to claim that is the only reason. It would be a bit like Calderwood and Higham saying they have got England call ups so the club should have renewed their contracts because they are obviously better than their replacements.
if your born in that country you play for that country and no one else in my book, fiar play if your mum and dad have split decendency but sack all the going back to your great grand mother and all that stuff...
and as far as having played so long in a certain country id sack that rule aswell, works well for us but dont agree with it...
