Respect
Re: Respect
It is hardly crime of the century Jim and one post does not equate to your opening post in this thread. I have met the poster in question and I can assure you nobody would ever describe him as ill mannered. To the contrary in fact.
The use of capitals does in net speak = raising your voice but that can be in exasperation or rejoiceful.
If we take net policy to this degree then Dave O policy of quoting posts is fully in accordance too?
I dislike swearing / spitting etc etc but as far as I am concerned the honour and integrity of an individual is far more important than their command of the English language.

Re: Respect
Just out of curiosity HC, do you also agree with some modern schools having a "non competitive" sports day, in case the less physically able pupils feel inferior?
Do you agree with a certain headmaster's comments from a school in Southport that we should not celebrate St. Georges day because it may offend the non English pupils (I know you're Scottish by the way)
Political correctness has gone bonkers in some parts of the country. The days of free speech and open debate seem almost banished because some people are too worried about what will be thought of them or the comments that are made by themselves and others.
Didn't you say that you were ex Army? I bet when you were serving there were things said about your superiors that were much, much worse than the things that are posted on here about our current Chairman. If somebody called your C.O. something nasty would you have reacted in the same way as you have on here? Yet a C.O. is someone who has also had to gain the respect of the men under his leadership and he has had to work extremely hard to gain command of a battallion / Regiment, never moreso than in the current climate in the middle east.
Surely your views on the way that Ian Lenegan's name is written on this site is of a similar vein as some of the ludicrous politically correct views that some people hold.
Most of us on this board are passionate about Wigan RLFC and as such our contempt, joy, frustration etc. for the staff and officials will no doubt be discussed on here in a largely adult and civilised manner. Do you honestly think for one minute that a successful multi millionaire business man is bothered about the way that his name is written on an internet fans forum? We are all (mostly) grateful to Mr Lenegan for buying our club and ridding us of the poison chalice that seemed to be messrs Whelan and Lindsay.
I'm pretty sure that he's stepped on more than a few people's toes in order to get to the position that he's in, both financially and professionaly. I've never heard of a successful business man who hasn't had a few run ins on his way to the top.
To summarise, chill out and think about the bigger picture

Re: Respect
Sutty re your post. Firtly non competitive sports are pointless and counter-productive. The competive eliment is what sets us apart. It is all part of a drive to make us robots. Christianity has gone from the major religion to something to be openly mocked. Being nationalist is illegal. There is no place for racism but it should not spoil our freedom of choice. We live in culture where alcohol is the religion of the masses. live in a society where it is pc to trash talk anyone for any reason. We have adverts that entice you to sue for the most stupid of reasons. In employment if a worker decides he has done enough after two years there is nothing you can do about it.
I do hold certain values. One of them is to respect positions of authority. IL is club chairman and owner. He was being hailed as the new saviour of WW. Without the full set of facts he is being pulled down here after one year in office because that is what is now the done thing on this board. Someone take a swing that in all probability is a wild guess and and the hordes swoop like flies round cow dung. Check back this board and find something nice being said about any player and there will be a counter argument either in the thread or one close by. If I was a stains supporter or a latic I would be ending myself reading this site. Talk about self destruct. Problem being there is no end to it. Today will be like yesterday and same again tomorrow. Within the constraints of the cap Wigan have to build a team. Any player that drives up the M6 is romoured to be on his way to Wigan and the pack waits to pounce. I am not the only one who is sick of it. Maybe I am more isolated than the others. Maybe I am more ready to stand up and call it as I see it but in the end it will come down to the same posters posting the same message on every thread. As stated this site was my first port of call now I dread coming in. Who are we slating today? What item will be there to lift the heart? what item will be there to put a smile on our faces? The team we have is the team for next year. The coach we have is the coach for next year. This constant slagging achieves nothing. But it does drive down the moral of fans and players alike. Why does it happen? probably external frustrations taken out on this site as stress release. The season was not all that bad,it is being painted that way to fit the cause.
Jim
PS I had some brilliant co's as I was in at the time many had seen service from ww2. My favourite was Major Jack Cheeseman, a L/CPL on the d day landings. I had some stinkers as well. However that would never be stated outwith the barrack room and certainly not on an open web forum. That is where respect and loyalty come in.

Re: Respect
HC my dear old Dad taught me one thing from a very young age, you have to earn respect, it matters not whether someone has more money than you or whether they are bigger than you they still have to earn respect. If Wigan were in desperate need I would give them as much as I could afford, it may not be as much as Mr Lenagan but then I dont have as much.
At the moment I am not sure about the man, I dont know him, but some of his statements at Forums seem to lack truth e.g his comment about it being most important to improve the fitness and coaching back up teams, I think he said this twice but it has still not happened.

Re: Respect
He has not been in the job long enough to be criticised the way he is being done on this site. Internally maybe but on an open forum. At the time your dad was telling you about respect he would be telling you not to trash someones reputation until you know the truth. Probably under that old fashioned word, gossip, why destroy a good whinge by resorting to facts. Virtually all the trash talk comes from rumours and gossip. When was the last time you saw any anyone offer an apology when proved wrong.

Re: Respect
HC checking back through some of your posts it seems we cannot criticise Noble, if we do we are wrong in your opinion. We cannot criticise IL because he has not been in the job long enough so who can we criticise.
We live in a democracy not a dictatorship (ok I could argue this most of the day because strictly speaking we are not governed by a party who obtained more than 50% of the vote of those eligible to vote and this has not been achieved for many years) and we are entitled to express opinions providing we do not step outside the legal barriers. In my opinion criticism does not necessarily mean you do not respect the person or item you are cruising.
I had more respect for my Dad than any other person I have ever met but there were times when he talked rubbish, in my opinion, we disagreed but never fell out about it.
If I am wrong I will apologise but Mr Lenagan has not earned my respect as yet I want to see him honour his promises and not tell us what he thinks we want to hear, in my opinion the jury is still out.

One of them is to respect positions of authority.
So nobody can ever criticise a politician, a member of the clergy where does it all end. I am sorry to shatter your utopian view Jim but many people in what you call authority might not deserve nor earn respect. Many inherited their positions, some abuse their positions.
You seem to be propsing a very old fashion know thy place ideal well sorry but I judger people on their actions not on their title or their bank balance.

I would rather chew the cud about sport than have your views of society Jim. I resent your notion that we all conform to your stereotypes. Nobody I know mocks religion. Each to their own is the common reply I hear. Do what you want as long as you do not try to indoctrinate me. I am a christian, I would be classed as non practising whatever that means. I am tea total, as is the Mrs. Many friends enjoy alcohol. Is it so bad in moderation? 2 months ago I found a 90+ year old woman on the ground of my street her head cut open and other injuries. The reason the paths are in a state of disrepair. I contacted the council and made the council repair the path with the assistance of a councillor. That lady has just returned home after 2 months of care. Should we say, do nothing?
