Nice to see Brian taking credit for bringing on the young ones. Tomkins and Ainscough now cause him a problem. Phelps, Mathers and Smith are surplus to requirement. Riddel took and gave a lot. Tommy played a different tpe of game but Riddel did carry his weight tonight. Fielden done well second half. Coley waste of a jersey. Smith, was he playing?? Catching high balls is a problem Wakey last night did not try. Is it something to do with kicking tecnic or ball shape? We have the players but Noble will have to prioratise. Sam has given him a headache bigstyle. Liked the way Sam said there were 6 ready to make their breakthrough, Jim

Ainscough is far from the finished article nor should he be. He has some great strengths and the odd weakness. Quite frankly for Noble to state he always brings young players through is tantamount to comedy.

Ainscough was left to rot in the academy lst season. He was eventually allowed a few reserve games at the end of the season after oing well for England v Australia.

Liam Colbon was known to be leaving and yet obl continued to play him for the last 6+ games when he could have given Ainscough or Stanton gams.

Imagine at the end of last season if he had alternated Higham and Tommy at hooker, played Sam T at 7 alongside Trent at 6 and given on of the young wingers games too.

Good to see the young guys play well

Smith isnt needed we were alot better with S Tompkins on. Ainscough played well both should keep there places.

Mathers isnt needed either lets leave Pat at fullback

Coley should be replaced with Prescott next game. Bailey helped us defensively on that side, but without Smith in the side i think we could have Goulding at centre and leave Bailey for the 2nd row

O'Carroll ran strong, Fielden was better 2nd half.

Amos showed what he is capable of and Riddel still doesnt look match fit.

A side with more youth and wigan lads looked like we had a chance of winning.

I see the pesimists have taken over the board. Players are being over analysed. CP has started six threads. Riddel played a good game. Fielden played out of his skin even after the finger in the eye. Coley sould get his pension I admit. Smith was anonymous. Lockers played a blinder. The kids earned their stipes. No player was faultless. Mistakes were made. Reffing was good. VR forgot his glasses. It was a good game. People was lifted. Noble's final speach was diabolical. Spindoctors are feeding him soundbites that are out of touch with known reality, Jim

Fielden was diabolical in the first half. Remember this is the highest paid prop forward in the world. He should be leading from the front. The first 10 minutes he was making errors conceding penalties and worse still looking gormless at the referee who me etc etc.

Riddel was poor. Randall outplayed him. Tommy was far better at 9 for us.

The win whilst welcome changes nothing just as the pre season wins should not have clouded people's opinions. It is quite conceivable we could go 1 win from 7.

Hoorah we won!!!

right now onto the bits and pieces:

1) As it has been previously put on i hope Noble does wake up and start to play the young guns, against some of our 'STARS'

2) having watched the game on sky, both myself and my father seemed to think that we looked more dangerous going forward with ridell of the pitch and lulu playing hooker. Riddell looks unfit and did not offer any go forward on the pitch (appart from once?) when playing from Dummy Half, whereas i think tommy seemed to try and do a lot more running from that position and seemed more fitter than riddell.

3) Also i think that Tomkinsalso outshone Tim Smith on the pitch and should keep his place in the team!

4) final question: during the game where the backs playing musical positions, as i am sure Pat seemed to be swapping from full back to wing, and vice versa?

but well done boys even if you did give me fright and hold onto my seat for most of the 2nd half!!

I can only see Richards keeping his Full Back spot after tonights performance, he is safe as houses under the high ball and is able to tackle one-on-one when the oposition break through the defensive line.. I just cant see Mathers getting back into the first team with Roberts/Ainscough/Phelps and Pryce seemingly infront of him in the pecking order... which does beg the question again "Why was his contract extended when the revenue could have been better spent elsewhere?"... Plus Richards has a cracking boot on him and with Tommy's and Smiths long kicking game not being great, I think richard's is in the ideal position at full back to put himself in the position to kick long distance kicks on the last tackle.

I personally like the idea of Tomkins coming off the bench and giving us another dimension with Tommy going to hooker, plus I would like Smith given more time as some of the passes he throws are sublime, admittingly he has defencive frailties but we have a good confidence boosting win, lets just build on this and give Tomkins more and more game time to build up his experience.

Well I am stuck here in Milwaukee and it has been -7 degrees Centigrade at the "warmest" today but seeing young S Tomkins get a game and from all accounts do well has warmed me up a bit!

Mind you I can't help but think Noble's had has been forced either by the previous three results or the chairman. I doubt there is anyone daft enough to believe this was all planned.

If Tomkins played as well as I have read then Noble has a dilemma.

Glad we got the two points, glad Tomkins played (and Ainscough wasn't dropped) but as with J Tomkins I can't help but think this is all despite Noble not because of him.
