Wigan to sign Gleeson?

Got a hot rumour from a source inside the club, or just something you heard down the pub? Then what are you waiting for, post it on The Rumour Mill.

Got told yesterday that Gleeson is definately not coming to Wigan as Warrington wont let him go. Also got told that Warrington have absolutely no interest in Mathers.

However I also got told that all this came about because Tony Smith wants to sign Goulding. He apparently rates him highly and tried to sign him at Leeds and Warrington too have tried to sign him in the past. Goulding has never been interested before due to being from Wigan and playing for his hometown club etc. That may now be different though after being messed around by Noble and after being treated badly both last season and this one.

Wigan dont want to let Goulding go and I guess that is why they then mentioned a swap with Gleeson, that is indeed if that part of the rumour is true.

Goulding sadly lacks pace for a centre a vital asset.

That sounds far more realistic to me. I guess we will have to wait and see.

If Wigan let Goulding go for Gleeson who is 29 then it would once again bring into question Wigan's policy on retaining it's home produced talent.

I know some people don't rate Goulding but I think he is a player who has got some unfair stick and poor treatment off Noble selection-wise.

As I said previously Gleeson to Wigan in 2010 and Mathers to Wire.

However, from an equally reliable source I have been told;

Gleeson will sign on Monday and play in the cup game. Mathers and Goulding are going to Warrington but unsure if Goulding is a permanent deal or a loan deal.

I guess tomorrow will give us an idea which is correct.
Any news CP on which it will be ?

Personally, I would prefer Steve Price (out of contract with the Warriors at the end of this season, poor age but a leader and ultra consistent week in week out) Alternatives Dave Taylor (Broncos) or Andrew Cuthbertson (Many). Tamana tahu (centre) went to Aus RU but now desparate to return to League. Terry Campese (Stand off)

British players? Richie Myler and/or Andy Lynch.

CP I think you must have attended the same school as me, perhaps your my long lost twin! My thoughts exactly. I have been saying all season that we need a prop (after Fridays game, I have decided that we need two), half-back, and centre (as well as a full back). Some good names you have come up with. Myler is a cracking player - let's do a swop with Salford - with Coley and Smith going in the opposite direction.

As for Mathers going to Warrington, they need a fullback to replace Reardon. Once he receives his custodial sentance Wire will terminate his contract.

Like it or not Gleeson is the best centre in the British game - he was the only outstanding player for us in the world cup. Given the Aussies are sniffing round I think that it confirms my opinion.

As for Goulding, he must stay. He has outstanding attacking attributes he just needs Rads to coach him defensively.

As for Gleeson being a party animal, he is not in the same league as Andy Gregory and Gary Conelley and look how they performed for us. It's what happens for 80 minutes each week that counts!

I wouldnt mind Mathers & Smith going the other way, but I cant understand whats with Wigan and the old Guard, like Gleeson.

No updates yet.

Phelps instead of Goulding would suit me.

Wouldn't that make Gleeson 30 when he signed for us?

If so what is the point of signing a back of that age never mind letting a young player go in exchange?

If Tony Smith at Wire is prepared to go for this deal who do we trust to have the better vision as to the long term benefits for their club? Smith or Noble?

Signing Gleeson may improve the side in the immediate term but he won't be around long so this smacks of Noble wanting a another short term fix (to protect his job!).

Wire would be offloading a high wage earner coming to the end of his career for a player Tony Smith clearly rates.
