I can't make it on Thursday, family stuff to attend too, however, one thing is certain. the scousers will be very loud, they always are. Wigan fans need to be louder than them, especially if we go behind.

Thats for sure !!! They are the most concited, self opnionated fans in the game , they feel as im sure we used to do? that they have won before the game even kicks off !!! We need to show um if not on the field , that us as fans of Wigan are proud, lloyal and can make as much noise as anyone. We need to be louder, and get behind the team, come what may !!!

Never boo, rarely cheer. I never sing stupid football songs. I clap good play. I watch the game.

Is this not the stuff of cliches talking about cauldrons.
Can you not go to the game and do both?

Watch the game and support the team. Chanting etc.

Do you bring a flask with hot chocolate in it and a blanket to keep your legs warm cp?
No. If you are watching the game you need to concentrate. I am convinced 99% of fans who sing constantly hardly see any of the match. They should join the choir if they like singing so much. Likewise I never drink alcohol at sports events. I have never understood fans who A) get bladdered before a match and spend the match urinating that money away often in disgusting public toilets or B) complain that the beer served is awful but then join lost of like minded individual queing up for it and when not doing that are getting rid of it in the toilet. When watching the match their brain is not functioning. I'd rather watch Brett Kenny play than say hey I got well bladdered me at that match, pissed as a fart.

I do not but maybe we should give them out at matches

I am one of the group of people who stands up at the top of South Stand, I sing all through the game but I still watch it!! But u are right cp coz half of the time wen there's a penalty or a scrum someone next to me or behind me will go "what happened there?"

I rarely drink at the game because I have to drive home, but on the odd occasion where me and my mate have got the train down we have a few drinks but we save the getting bladdered part til after the game!!

Exactly mate u can sing and watch!! Who said men can't multitask eh??? Lol!!

I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is that I love a good atmosphere!! I go to watch Rochdale Football when the rugby season is finished and the atmosphere at lower league football is absolutely fantastic because its passionate fans who support their local teams!! And I don't think any billionaire owners could ever replace that

  Just kiddin cp.

In fairness I agree with what you say and there is an element of that going on at the club which I am ashamed to say I could probably identify a lot of the people referred to. I am glad to say I am not one of them, never have been and never will be. If they want to get rat-arsed and cause trouble go stand in a park rather than tarnish the reputation of Wigan rugby league fans.

However cp you can enjoy the two is the serious point I was making. There is nothing wrong with having a couple of pints before the match on the ground and a chat with some friends in the south stand bar, watch the game and get a taxi back. Neither is their a problem with joining in with a few of the chants at the ground and generating an atmosphere. I guess that is why they call us supporters. The lad who started the thread was only try to ask for fans to get behind the lads a bit more. Which I agree with to some extent. I get the impression some people are just going threw the motions at games just waiting to pounce on any error any of our lads make rather than getting behind the team right from the kick off which incidentally doesn't have to be mindless football chants either or abuse at the referee. Although having said that I wouldn't class anyone a Wigan fan if at some point they haven't yelled "gerrum onside!".
I know Alex and I was being equally silly albeit serious too. I tend to react to what I see on the pitch. So for example I nearly passed out when Calders scored at Headingley as the blood coursed through my veins in ecstacy. Who needs drugs/drink. We all shout in reaction to something good or bad.

BTW I hope South Standers never feel they have to apologise for wanting to stand where they do. I hate the snobbery whereby West look down on East and West and East look down on South. I posted earlier this season that IMO the best atmosphere is in the South and for viewing RL standing/sitting behind an ingoal is far better than along a touchline. Jackie Edwards stood on the Spion Kop and so did CP. The Popular Side/Sully Bar was the South Stand back then.

The worst supporters are not the ones that do the walk, not the ones who sing or do not, but the chunnerers. I kid you not, it matters not whether you win or lose, nor whether they were watching the 85-95 or 2000-2009 teams they spend 2 hours rabbiting, picking fault. Everybody around them has no choice but to listen.

Contrary to what people may or may not think I just watch the match, I will talk to whomever is with me periodically but often that will be a jokey conversation. The Mrs supported Barrow at Barrow. When she is at work I usually get txts during the match along the lines of losing again lol All said in fun I may add.

So yes atmosphere is great but at the end of the day players make that atmosphere IMO. Bradford was great because the players played well, Wakey was awful because the players played badly. Personally, the atmosphere is not that great a determinant of whether I enjoy the game or not but it tends to go hand in hand because if Wigan play well I enjoy the game and the atmosphere is good on such occasions. If Wigan play bad no amount of rocking in the stands is going to quell my anger.

I do not boo etc but one could argue I am hypocritial as are many because I sound off here. MBs are cathartic lol Unlike many though I would say what I do an indeed I do to the people concerned. The chunnerers at the JJB would not say boo to a goose face to face. Look at the fans forums, most people are too scared to even speak up.

I do not boo them
i do not walk away from them

what i do expect is full bloodied commitment to the cause and i must say i do not think we have been getting that for some time

i stood up and praised Hansen against Huddersield because he stood his corner

I will sing and shout until i lose my voice for the team , which i have done on hundreds of occasions over the long years

so yes sing you bloody welshmen sing - oh sorry just a carry over from watching Zulu again
Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White
