Re: Tim Smith....
i'm not Smith's biggest fan. i do think he COULD have a place at wigan though....
but,
isn't it funny. we never (i never read or heard) critisised TS for his defence before that home game at the beginning of the year where he hung onto a try scorers shirt.
now all of a sudden, he's a worse tackler than every man in SL!

Good point, and he was also the closest thing we had to a decent player in the Hull game having made some great passes and kick to the corner IIRC.the-Bowtun-Warr ior wrote:i'm not Smith's biggest fan. i do think he COULD have a place at wigan though....

Gareth Thomas before his first game: "You wanna spend 10 mins getting smashed up by these guys..Big dudes here.."
Re: Tim Smith....
I think you will find that plenty of people have critised his defense ever since he came to the club. If you were referring to the Cas game then he was at fault for at least 3 tries. His performance in this game was one, if not the, the worst that I have ever seen from a rugby player, at any level. The week later against Quins he was that bad again that Noble brought him off and didnt put him back on. He was then dropped for a few games. It is very debatable if he has even done anything in the reserves to even earn a recall after being dropped.the-Bowtun-Warr ior wrote:i'm not Smith's biggest fan. i do think he COULD have a place at wigan though....

Re: Tim Smith....
personally i like him with ball in hand. i dont think there are any doubts as to his talent. his assist ratio this season speaks for itself.gpartin wrote:Good point, and he was also the closest thing we had to a decent player in the Hull game having made some great passes and kick to the corner IIRC.the-Bowtun-Warr ior wrote:i'm not Smith's biggest fan. i do think he COULD have a place at wigan though....

i just think many are fickle and jump on this 'defence' bandwaggon!

Re: Tim Smith....
He is limited with ball in hand to passing. He is not fit enough nor fast enough to pose a running threat. His kicking game which was once upon a time great is very hit and miss due to lack of strength/fitness.
Irrespective we are going to have to play him presumably with Piggy out for a few weeks.

Hock/Hansen - Phelps/Carmont
I see your point depending on where Smith drops in the defensive line Gleeson seems to have tightened up what you've said.
Imagine KP in there?

Every player has to be able to defend in Modern RL Mike. You cannot hide at the highest level. A decent team will simply run plays that isolate a weak defender especially near the line.mike binder wrote:hal;f backs should not defens ,he shaould ahve a good centre and second row at the side of him when defending to cover him ,i now feel he has that
