Best point in the thread. Ainscough's weaknesses had no bearing on at least one of the tries scored, I don't think anyone would have stopped either to be fair.ian.birchall wrote:
Credit Brough for the two tries scored on Ainscoughs wing, they were both inch perfect to Blanch and were unstoppable. We cannot make him captain though, I am a great supporter but the lad is embarrassing when he is interviewed on Tv although to be fair ha wasn't half as bad at Les Cats as he was at London. Has to be Sam Tomkins for captain in a couple of years.

Re: Drop Ainscough at your peril Noble!
I'll start by saying I am a big fan of Ainscough and I really do think he is a quality player.. But I do have to agree with Noble about him. He is fantastic in attack and yes he scored 4 tries, but personally I think they could ( and I mean could, taking nothing away from Ainscough he had a fantastic match) have been scored by a number of players if they were playing on the Wing. However 2 of the Wakefield tries were caused by mistakes on Ainscough's behalf. The first try he was definitely out of position and this could be true about the second too but I can't remember fully. He is a young player and he can't start every single match, he isn't good enough to do that. Some aspects of his game need improving and the only way he can do that is by spending some time in the reserves. As we can see it can be too costly to let him gain this experience in the 1st team.
Re: Drop Ainscough at your peril Noble!
You cannot learn what he needs to learn in the reserves Smurfy and why do you think he cannot play every game?
Re: Drop Ainscough at your peril Noble!
The bomb that Ainsy caught was one of the highest kicks I have ever seen in a game of rugby. And then his run was fantastic, unfortunately at this point I went to the toilet but just seen Phelp's try which followed Smith's kick and from our own line it will go down as one of the best tries of the season and worth the entrance fee alone. In my defence for missing it I was really desperate for a wee

Been thinking and may get slated but I dont mind...
i dont think Noble's comments post-match are worth anything to look into. Most fans know he is rubbish defending kicks and Noble pointed that out saying in different words that "There's a lot more to come from him". I dont think there are any negative vibes from what he said. Kear said more or less the same. Perhaps comments are also aimed for a wider audience, those who dont go onto message boards daily or attend games... generalise a view and such forth.

In a sense I understand what you mean but had he said, 'there's a lot more to come from him' this would suggest that Noble is encouraging Ainsy to work on his game and get better. Noble's words seem to be excusing himself for dropping Ainsy and not at all intended as encouragement IMO.ancientnloyal wrote:Been thinking and may get slated but I dont mind...

In the similar sense in the past Noble has been guilty of giving undue praise to players he loves and has no intention of dropping any time soon. Its all about Noble trying to justify himself to everyone.
What Noble should be doing is saying Ainsy is performing very will and will get even better. He should do this whilst acknowledging that his mistake in not picking him for a number of games last year means that he has areas of his game to work on which should already have been ironed out had this chance been given.

So you think Noble should praise him at every opportunity and build him up to opponents? Thats quite a good idea I guess.

That is what I think gpartin. Dropping Ainscough was not good for Ainscough's confidence, and was not a form of encouragement, and neither where Noble's after match comments on Ainscough's display.gpartin wrote:In a sense I understand what you mean but had he said, 'there's a lot more to come from him' this would suggest that Noble is encouraging Ainsy to work on his game and get better. Re: Drop Ainscough at your peril Noble!
It makes absolutely no difference to the other teams whatsoever, they will all be fully aware of his strengths and weaknesses, Noble can comment on Ainsy by way of encouragement but without massaging his ego. This may be his intention but I get the feeling his words are badly chosen if this is the case. Saying he is the best thing ever is probably not the best way of dealing with a young lad as Leeds showed with marcus St Hilaire and several others all those years ago.ancientnloyal wrote:So you think Noble should praise him at every opportunity and build him up to opponents? Sport is very much about confidence individually and collectively. I have to see a young player respond positively to criticism. Any criticism should be kept in house.
