Turf that is the most accurate you have been on referees and penalties in a while mate. Well done.robjoenz wrote:Scarily... I find myself agreeing with you on this one Turfy lolturf wrote:Did anyone lip read Fielden when Riley scored that try, pointing at Thaler, saying, "you, f*****g bent b*****d".
Yet I saw the replays of the two penalties that Fielden conceded and there is no point in blaming and pointing at Ben Thaler, because Fielden shoul have made an attempt to get out of the way, instead of trying to con Mr Thaler who wasn't having any of it and rightly penalised Fielden, twice.

You've let me down Geoff... no sooner do I say that I often agree with you, you go and post something I disagree with haha.GeoffN wrote:I have to disagree turf, although I've not watched the video yet, I'd guess the penalty count at something like 12-6 against us, many of which were blatant con jobs by the Wire players. Yet again, we have the inconsistency showing; tonight's "offence of the week" was the PTB, while ignoring high shots and forward passes.
Not blaming Thaler for the loss, as many of his errors were in our favour (especailly the forward passes we got away with).
I can only think of two penalties where Warrington players played for a penalty and got in (one from King and one from Briers) and I thought they were both definate penalties, particularly the McIllorum push. I thought both sides got away with a lot of ruck infringements, player like Westwood for Warrington and Fielden and O'Loughlin for Wigan leaving hands on the ball and not clearing the ruck.
Re: Wigan lose to wire
Been out on a do tonight, so only just got in and seen the match. Obviously a different match to some people on here.
Don't blame the ref. He didn't give away the stupid penalties in the second half, he simply awarded them.
We were poor, we were outplayed, we were out kicked, we were out coached.
That is the story of tonights, and probably next week's matches.

Re: Wigan lose to wire
I cant understand anyone criticising Thaler, he was ok.Riddell really is so unfit and was the worst man on the pitch. Our kicking game was poor and not having Tommy at 9 for part of the game hurt us.Our props are just not good enough although they try their hearts out, even Fecca could make no yards tonight.Roberts played well and Pat never lets us down. There is no disgrace in being beaten in the air by King as hes so tall but Ainscough never got off the ground for Kings try and his defence is poor.I have been a critic of Micheal M but never mind admitting when im wrong and he is really playing well and long may it continue.Ialso think we missed Bailey.

That's a great post! the first of about four posts on this topic that actually said it how it was. :eusa2:Wigan_forever19 85 wrote:I felt the Ref had a good game until the last 20 and he started to get swayed. Riddell was the only play who i would say performed poorly for us and threw at least 3 blatently forward passes.
Roberts turned my opinion on him and i felt he had a cracker made some very very good descions and looked busy all night. Ainsy gave Noble the excuse he was looking for and wont play again unless of injury. I think Sam T is an outstanding player that chip over if anyone had read it would of resulted in something if he was playing for st helens he would be in the england squad he is lightyears ahead of some of the team a real instinctive rugby player.
On the whole wasn't a bad performance and Wolves i felt were good, mathers showing that a coach can make the difference he looked 100x's safer and saved a certain try from joel. I think we lack weight up front, feilden and coley while neither played badly just aren't making the yardage we need them too. Morley and Carvell were gaining 5-10m after impact about the same was lost by feilden and coley. We need a workhorse prop to make us that hard yardage up the middle until feka enters.
Im not too disheartened it was a good effort from the boys like i said riddell was the only player i thought was poor everyone else pulled their weight i thought sam. t, roberts and hock were my stand outs. Wire are very similar to us a really good team but have never seemed to get it together however now tony smith seems to be having an effect on them.
oh! and lets all have a disco :eusa3: la lar lar la! hey!....

No I meant Wigan then and now.robjoenz wrote:Do you mean Hull KR and Warrington? I'd have to disagree there.pedro wrote:Problem is Rob both them teams are/were garbage.

So Thaler got it wrong then :doz:turf wrote:Also another point about Thaler, he also gave us more decision in the game than Silverwood did last week. Example, Feka reefed it out, Thaler gives a knock on against Warrington.
Silverwood would have given a penalty to Warrington.
Re: Wigan lose to wire
I am sure Wire fans felt they were treated as badly by the referee as Wigan fans felt they were. At the end of the day two teams busted their guts out but with ball in hand Warrington just asked more questions and challenged the Wigan defence more which is why we lost. Given our start to force Wire to only miss 1 tackle in the first half reflects our poor we are with ball in hand.
SL is a league of immense effort but minimal class and sadly Wigan are one of the most dishevelled clubs in SL in terms of class in the key decision making / game management positions of coach, hooker, scrum half and fullback.

spot on. in comparison with the nrl super league is ebhind on an attacking sense. we've been obsessed with power and speed for to long, and we paly off the cuff rugby with less structure. it was shown up hugely in the world cup. that phrase game management is a key one. how often in international matches do we make make a half break, get aquick play the ball and then just charge it up with another forward, when there's space out wide? in australian national sides in the same situation, the half back would be getting the forwards out of the way and dominating from first reciever. our game sense is nowhere near theirs.cpwigan wrote:

Re: Wigan lose to wire
Concerning Feka, any prop with his size and power makes more yards if he's running onto the ball at full speed. Feka rarely took the ball at more than half speed. Question the coaching???
Concerning Piggy, he's a poor hooker. MM has more ability and twice or three times the speed. Question why Noble wastes his time with Piggy???
Concerning lack of enterprise in attack, we were incredibly predictable. Lack of enterprise by coach???
Concerning poor quality tactical/6th tackle kicking, is this coached any more? Very few Super League halves come close to Shaun Edwards in this department.
Lastly, if we keep losing discipline in the second half, then our coach isn't tough enough to get the message across.
We have enough talent to be in the top five, maybe the top three. Guess what we don't have!!
