youth at clubs

Post by ferreira »

alot of people moan about how the youth never get chances but some names what get thrown around on here are just silly. every one knows whos involved at club level rugby some player just get signed to fill the spots not every player should expect to go straigh in the first team when they get to 19 he. theres only a few what should such as sam tomkins shaun ainscough is good in attack but really is perfectic in defence and in the air he did nothing against warrington and he has had a few run in trys in them 13. chris tuson ben davies lee mossop there players what id call a buffer zone as they are just good enough to play friendlys and early challenge cup games who would you drop for them joel tomkins hansen bailey hock? we have are 4 reserve players sam shaun o'carrol i guess you could say joel aswell thats more than saints and leeds. and people go on when they dont start every game or included in the squad. players like ainscough should be happy there getting game time at there home town club not using that there the leading try scorer to get new contracts or even people shouldnt start worrying o hes going to leave let him if he wants to that much im sure when he becomes more seasoned he will get the contract he deserves at the time and this just a strong opinion.

I think he is trying to say that it is wrong to expect all academy players to make it at Wigan. Some won't make the grade and move onto other clubs or pursue different careers all together. I think ferreira believes that while Tomkins and Ainscough should be pushed into the first team but players like Massop, Davies and Tuson are good academy/reserve but will not make the grade.

If I understood that correctly then I would agree to a certain point. There are probably about 5 players currently in the reserves who will get a proper chance at Wigan while other players although good enough for reserve games they will never make it at Wigan.
