our guys played great last night...
Not trying to be smart here, but what game were you watching? We were great for a patch of about 10-15 mins first half. After that and actually during that some of the defence was apallng especially in the centres. We made some terrible errors, consistenly knocking on and dropping ball. We had absolutely nothing going forward second half. The only positives I can take from that are the brilliant Radlinski, and Newton showing an improvement in his discipline.
I agree that we back the team and all you say on that but I thought we were very very bad last night

I have thought this for a couple of seasons but my argument gets demolished when a Brit club wins the World Challenge match (or whatever it's called). I watch the Aussie game regularly on TV and wonder how our clubs would go.DaveO posted:The reason I don't think its special is that for all the hype about SL being more competative etc I just don't think the standard is very high at all.wigan pie man posted:
imo..the leeds team is special..its good..its fast..its big....but its also beatable.
Leeds may be the best team in the competition but that doesn't mean they are a special team in the sense of greatness.
Dave
The probable answer is that our clubs beat the Aussies due to a combination of home advantage and greater hunger. If we had to play at that level consistently we would get pasted.

don't want to sound negative but leeds support has double since they started winning trophies i remember not long ago when they was getting beat by teams and not much of an away crowd turned up or home crowd if you look at wigan lots of fans know we may not do well this season and we still have good crowds.
Leeds, support and form improved as Leeds Utd started to fall from grace about 3 years ago.
Bradford, started to improve and win trophies 5 years ago, and yes you've guessed Bradford City started their big slide at about that time.
Huddersfield, as above.
Hull, see above, but the trend is turning as Hull FC begin the long climb.
Now Wigan, as much as I hate to say this, our decline has coincided with the rise and rise of Wigan Ath. It now looks very much like they will achieve Prem status next year, it is being rumoured that MO is going to be given a position with the Latics ??? it is also rumoured Mo will go to Australia next year, it is also rumoured that DW will be concentrating all his efforts on football, he has always claimed that he would like to sit on the Prem Management Board. We will be left leaderless, Betts will fold under the pressure.
I am realy afraid for our future, I cannot see how we can recover, bad signings, below std youngsters, bad management, could it get any worse !!!!!!

Leeds United's relegation from the premiership provides the answer there. The rugby fans have started singing many of the football songs.heydude posted

A lot of people are going to have a go at me again here, but something has to be pointed out about crowds and the relative leaugue position of top RL teams who compete with Prem Football teams.

Looks like you're reduced to talking to yourself, old boy. When you're posting things like "it's rumoured Mo is going to do this, but also going to do that in a different country, and he's also doing the other somewhere else", then you're asking for ridicule. It's not physically possible for all these rumours to be true, how can he be involved with the Latics in Australia? And Whelan isn't daft, Wigan RLFC is currently a profitable organisation and that's what any owner can want from a business. Already he has little to do with the day-to-day running of the team, so if he goes and plays at being Lord of the Premiership then I doubt we'll see any difference in his involvement with RL, either positively or negatively, as a result.we_need_a_coach posted:we_need_a_coach posted:heydude posted:

The two point about Doris where made to show that they are rumours, but there's no smoke without fire !!

I've no problem with IMO's, at least we're all clear about what is being claimed as fact and what is opinion.we_need_a_coach posted:
No but will be onto the IMO's soon.

As for the rumours, the problem I have is that you never know who starts the rumours. They've been used too many times to say one thing with the aim of getting something else, such as rumours of players wanting to leave when infact they're only really after a better deal from their current club. I wonder how much more Canterbury have had to pay SBW after all the rumours of him leaving to play for nearly every other team in the world? There's always people prepared to start rumours about anything, often just to destabilise things. The ML rumour, for example, might cause agents not to take him seriously in negotiations for players to come to Wigan if they think he's going to be at a different club. Who does that benefit? Almost everyone except Wigan, so there's any number of people who might want to start that rumour. No smoke without fire? Indeed, but there's a difference between a smoldering rubbish bin (where most rumours belong) and a raging inferno.

Fraggle, the SBW saga at Bulldogs seems to be having a knock on effect with some of their other players morale with his salary against theirs. Time surely, at least on July 1st to make a timely attack on them for the likes of Willie Mason and another of their forwards?
