I agree with medlock on this one, im sorry but there should be a zero tolerance to drugs its the only way to get it out the sport. These people are getting paid a lot of money to do something regular people can only dream about they should accept that privilledged position and stay clean its not hard is it, not breaking the law!. He deserves to be punished to the highest amount you can.

so you just contradicted yourself there didn't you, and where did you state that you where only talking about Rugby & sport in your post, all you stated was Everybody deserves another chance no matter how telentless they are.God wrote:And what the hell have these people got to do with Rugby League and sport??medlocke wrote:So in your own words the likes of Gary Glitter and Adolf Hitler deserve second chances, nice.God wrote:Your wrong, everybody deserves a second chance no matter how talentless they are. So get off your high horse.
Im simply asking if its double standards or not, that is the disgussion, not if Hock is guilty or not because we all know he is.
Hock hasnt fiddled kids or committed genocide on a mass scale, people like that dont deserve a second chance, anybody with half a brain knows that. You have to draw the line somewhere, your just being stupid with that comment.

If I understand this case correctly, he missed a drug test that his club had imposed on him, he was never called for a test by WADA. Also, again correct me if I'm wrong, but this happened at the end of the season, when taking coke is not on the banned substance list.
I do think that this stinks, and that if using coke is a 2 year ban in season, then the same should apply out of season, it does the same harm whenever you take it.
With Hock, he failed a WADA test.

You never answered the question that was posed to you a couple of weeks ago, when someone asked if you had spent time at Her Majesty's pleasure and whether or not you had been given a second chance in society? Or at least I don't remember reading your answer, I apologise if you did answer and I've missed it.medlocke wrote:so you just contradicted yourself there didn't you, and where did you state that you where only talking about Rugby & sport in your post, all you stated was Everybody deserves another chance no matter how telentless they are.God wrote:And what the hell have these people got to do with Rugby League and sport??medlocke wrote: So in your own words the likes of Gary Glitter and Adolf Hitler deserve second chances, nice.

Been there done it mate, was involved with the Drugs scene and crime world for 9 year mate and have been cleen and crime free for 12 years, i have seen shed loads of people on drugs in all kinds of circumstances, the fact is, a person isn't going to get clean unless they really want to, Hock was caught, he never owned up, it's not rocket science, if Hock had not been caught he would still be living it large snorting the shit out of ounces and loling at everyone due to the fact he has not been caught. You got to take responsibilitys for your actions, i never got any second chances from anywhere, in fact i still get shitty looks of certain pricks in town, the thing that is doing my head in is the fact that Hock is a talented homegrown Wigan player, so that makes it a travesty, yet if it had been a talentless aussie workhorse he would be gone and not another word mentioned, thank youTHE 18th Man wrote:maybe because it was the RFU that banned him
for example if the RFL said Hock was banned for 8 months for using Cocaine then maybe Hock cant get banned by the Aanti Doping Agency.
the problem is the RFL have no guts
they wouldnt even ban Cunningham for breaking another mans eye socket by punching him.
medlocke as much as i respect your opinion it makes no sense.
if one of your family members got done for taking drugs and gets banned from their job for 2 years which is a ridiculious amount of time anyway would you say he doesnt deserve another chance and deserves everything he gets.

fair play medlocke, there are very few who will be respondsible for their actions when the shit hits the fan, :eusa2: :eusa2: :eusa2:medlocke wrote:Been there done it mate, was involved with the Drugs scene and crime world for 9 year mate and have been cleen and crime free for 12 years, i have seen shed loads of people on drugs in all kinds of circumstances, the fact is, a person isn't going to get clean unless they really want to, Hock was caught, he never owned up, it's not rocket science, if Hock had not been caught he would still be living it large snorting the shit out of ounces and loling at everyone due to the fact he has not been caught. Re: If Hock gets banned for 2 years there will be double...
The reason why he got off so lightly is contained within the first sentence of the article:God wrote:Found this article in Rugby Union, the guy only gets an 8 month suspension for Coke, Hmmm something not right here.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/20072009/ ... e-use.html
"Former Bath lock Justin Harrison has been handed an eight-month ban by the RFU after admitting taking cocaine at an end-of-season celebration."
In other words he took the stuff out of competition whereas Hock took the stuff during the season in-competition and the rules are quite clear. Cocaine is only banned in-competition and in fact Bath RUFC or the RFU didn't need to ban him at all since he took it out of competition.
Also the article says this:
"Harrison, who retired from rugby at the end of the season, admitted three charges of conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game, including taking cocaine in the toilets of a west London pub."
So he was banned for conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game by the RFU not by WADA because he had not broken any WADA rule.
He wasn't charged with a doping offence at all and the reason he wasn't is because he took the stuff out of competition and so had not broken the WADA anti-doping rules. Had Hock taken the stuff in the RL off season he would not have been charged with an anti-doping offence either.
The last sentence of the article also says this:
"In February Bath's England prop Matt Stevens was given a two-year ban after a routine doping test showed he had used cocaine. "
Note the month. February which is right in the middle of the RU season so because he tested positive in-competition like Hock he got the same ban as Hock - two years.
So quite clearly there are no double standards at all. The rules only ban cocaine in competition as it is considered a stimulant. You can disagree with the fact it is a stimulant of any worth if you like but it won't change the rules and those rules have been enforced consistently both for RU and for RL for players caught taking cocaine in-competition. Matt Stevens got two years in RU and Hock got two years in RL.
No problem at all here.

Re: If Hock gets banned for 2 years there will be double...
as it's a "social drug" and not a sport enhancing drug"cheating" surely if the player agreed to weekly/monthly tests the ban could be less severe

Medlock Well Done, Turning your life around cannot have been easy....
You are however correct Hock got caught and didn't own up, he's one step from being an addict and until he admits this and wants to, really wants to he won't recover....
I do however feel he should, if he can turn it around, get another chance, just like i think you should too. But just like you he will get jeered and looked down upon, because the british people are very judgemental, they don't mean to be they just are..
I was so angry when i heard what he had done, i personally could have slapped him silly, but i have calmed down a touch now. I do however feel 2 years is the ban written in the rules and as such he should serve 2 years. You shouldn't move the goal posts to suit. If he can't do the time he shouldn't have one the crime.. End Of story. He knew the score so stop sticking up for him, he wouldn't give a hoot if it was one of us....
The other cases with the 8 month bans were not tested by the same body and not looking at the same rules so tough luck Gareth, perhaps you too should have forgot to get the test and got the flock out of there....
