Re: If Nobby goes.........
I still don't see the problem with Noble. We are a serious contender for the GF and still the wardrums are beating. Phelps showed a turnround and won the fans over, Riddell is the same and Roberts and Smith had come on leaps and bounds but their lack of form in the first games could not possibly have anything to do with the poor results. That was Noble. We had a horror against Celtic but other than that we are the best team in the latter part of the year. Where are the statistics now that were used, 3 from 10 etc. Noble has the team where he wants them. The in form club. If I was on trial some on here would have me guilty from the start and no way change their minds,

He has been exposed as a poor coach IMO.highland convert wrote:I still don't see the problem with Noble.
If you had seen the way we played v Hull last Friday you would not be saying that. We can dream but we have played badly too often this season to be serious contenders IMO. We have an outside chance if we get a lot of luck. Big difference. We are a serious contender for the GF and still the wardrums are beating.
Yes it was because Noble still kept picking the out of form players regardless of form. It is also a problem because it has happened three season in a row and he has failed to address the issue.Phelps showed a turnround and won the fans over, Riddell is the same and Roberts and Smith had come on leaps and bounds but their lack of form in the first games could not possibly have anything to do with the poor results. Oh and Riddell looked as poor on Friday as at any time since he got here. Roberts was good but has too inconsistent over the season to win over any but the "never say anything bad abut a player brigade".
Want some stats? How about these. In 2007 we lost 11 league games. In 2008 we lost 11 league games. In 2009 we have lost 11 league games. No improvement. It is these stats that mean we sit outside the top 4 and only have an outside chance of getting to the GF. Not good enough and Noble carries the can because he is the coach. We had a horror against Celtic but other than that we are the best team in the latter part of the year. Where are the statistics now that were used, 3 from 10 etc.
In fact when you consider the fixture list this year the performance is worse than last because this time we only played Leeds twice not three times and Saints three times not four. We have had two easier fixtures this time with the arrival of Salford and Celtic and we still manage to lose 11 games.
The evidence against Noble is clear. We are not the form team despite the recent wins. We were poor against Cas and were poor against Hull, that isn't form. Ironically if you are looking for a form team outside the top 2 (Leeds are IMO odds on to win again) then its Noble's old club, Bradford who we may face in the first round of the play offs.Noble has the team where he wants them. The in form club. If I was on trial some on here would have me guilty from the start and no way change their minds,

Dave, you make a compelling case against Nobby and it is difficult to disagree with you.
If ever the true value of a good coach can be proven you only have to look at Warrington this season. Going nowhere until Smith took over, now they are playing cracking footy and fully deserved to win the cup.
So IL it's down to you to find the right man for the job.

Add to that the names of Ray Unsworth, Doug Laughton, Jack Worthington.cpwigan wrote:lol Cherry. People like Jackie can tell you in a single match 99 times out of a 100 if a young player has what it takes.

Very true SEFC. I watched a NARLVI interview with Doug last week. He still talked far more sense in that 2 hour interview than the likes of Noble do across a whole season.

[quote="cpwigan"]More or less Cherry. However, I would personally get the best 50 young lads from Wigan and have them playing matches on the same day and let a group of people like Jackie watch the matches / players.
As it currently stands a group of scouts all go and watch club matches and it goes from there so to speak. So a scout typically has to watch umpteen matches weekend after weekend and you are not always going to get the best judges of players doing that. For example a man of Jackies age is not going to do that. Nor will Ray Unsworth I would think but they would give a day up etc.[/quot
The problem is CP that the same scouts go to the same matches. Why did we need to send three representatives to watch Wigan players in the schools cup final? Our net needs to be cast wider than St Pats, St Judes etc. Saints and Wire are picking up good players from Leyland, Chorley etc. Saints, for example, have contacts within both clubs. Our interest in Cumbria is woeful.
I am sure that Ian and Mick are addressing the problem because they are both keen on producing junior talent. They have simply inhereted a system that is antiquated. The previous regime passed up the chance of aquiring Burgess, Westerman and Amor to name but three!

Re: If Nobby goes.........
I may be wrong SEFC but I thought AMOR trialled after IFL took over. However, I agree. I honestly believe some great RL talents do not even play RL which is a loss and there must be talents outside the traditional amateur catchment area. It would be arrogant on our part to assume that a small area of Wigan has all the future Wigan RL professional stars.
