Time for a new captain????!!!!!
Re: Time for a new captain????!!!!!
he is a fantastic captain, he just leads from the front in every way. when no one wants to take a carry who puts there hand up? wen a bloke needs stopping, who is there? you dont have to shout and ball at players to be a good captain, not every one responds well to that. the guy who you need leading you in to battle is the guy who is willing to do everything that is asked of every player, run hard, tackle harder, kick ,put people in gaps, for me there is only one player who ticks all those boxes and then some.

Yes captains have these qualities and Lockers as a player does he's far share of the work and hard yards. Yet if you think these are all you need to be a great captain you are deluded!!!. Its ok saying not all players respond to a vocal captain, but the way Lockers captains a game none of our players respond to it as we havnt won anything under him!!!!. A captain is your on field coach that identifies areas of improvement during a game and sees weaknesess in the opposision that other players cant. Rugby is a sport with opportunities to interact and relay information to fellow players during stopages ie. "we need to toughen our defence on the left and stop rushing out of the line to stop their centers". "We need to calm down boys, we've conceded a try but we're still in this game, lets keep posession and stop trying to offload silly balls!!!". "Hey Stuart Fielden...everytime you take the ball up that prop forwards taking the piss out of you, are you going to let hime get away with it mate??!!". Lockers is an onfield mouse that is at best an above average player that can never lead us into a winning culture!!!!woody wrote:he is a fantastic captain, he just leads from the front in every way. when no one wants to take a carry who puts there hand up? wen a bloke needs stopping, who is there? you dont have to shout and ball at players to be a good captain, not every one responds well to that. the guy who you need leading you in to battle is the guy who is willing to do everything that is asked of every player, run hard, tackle harder, kick ,put people in gaps, for me there is only one player who ticks all those boxes and then some.

Is it at this time of year that comments regarding lifting the team get made - he needs to stand under the sticks harranging and bollocking Farrell style to be a great on field leader?
The coach was happy and the team respect him. Unless the new coach wants wholesale change to make his mark, stick with the status quo.

I think I will leave it to Michael Maguire to decide who is, or is not going to be our Captain. We can debate the qualities and ability of Lockers all day long and we will never agree with each other. So lets just leave it to the man that many of us on here welcomed as the next saviour of our beloved club.

So last week it was Noble's fault we hadn't won anything, now he's gone it suddenly becomes the fault of the captain does it?warrior1973 wrote:Yes captains have these qualities and Lockers as a player does he's far share of the work and hard yards. Have you been on the pitch after the team concede a try? Do you have proof the O'loughlin isn't saying the things you mention? Jut because he can't be eard screaming at the back of the stands, it doesn't mean he doesn't do these things.
Good player, Better captain. He has IMO been immense this year, and the players vote suggests they think so too.
And yes I did vote for him as player of the year in the Poll on this site.

Whilst not wishing to become imbroiled in the debate, would like to add my opinion.
I was at cas game last year when we conceded a try and I was stood on the fence . Lockers walked slowly to the other players hands on hips and said"where we going wrong guys". At which point im indors put his hand over my mouth while i tried to tell them where they were going blooming wrong.
Lockers is not a vocal captain and yes he has played well this season, and i believe a captain should lead by example.
I do feel however he does need to inject some spirit into the team when we concede trys or are up against it. GOd (edwards) could fire them up when needed and calm them down if they were getting to carried away, faz would really lay into them, as i remember the Mark Bell incident at Salford.
Locks just needs to be a little more vocal and involved.
