We need Carmont he`s been our best centre since Gary Connelly .
When we look at the players we are keeping ie Pryce , that`s a joke , a sick one , Carmont must be kept as he is class .
He also very rarely goes off with injuries .
Come on IL and MM let`s keep our quality players .
where have you heard that?

and with the time of it seems you might be half cut

we should keep george his attack is as good as his defence and not to many players have the ability to be good at both .

I thought the same too Standish.
He has been terrific for us, but you rightly say the injuries are cropping up.
1 year seems a fair crack of the whip for his age, and no doubt other clubs will want him tomorrow, even on a two year deal.
I guess we wont know the true story with many aspects of the club squad until Michael Mcguire arrives.
Many things may already have been discussed between IL & MM, including George's contract.

I agree - he's been tremendous while he's been here, but I do worry that age and inuries will start to catch up with him - a one year deal is about right, I'd say.

It can only be assumed that if George isn't going to be offered a new contract that Maguire may have somebody in mind who he'd like to bring in.

Lenagan did say last week that there was a possibility of one, maybe two new faces in the squad before the new season begins.

We've previously been told that we're close to the limit for the salary cap therefore if Maguire wants to improve the squad then present playing staff will need to make way.

Time will tell whether allowing George to be one of those allowed to leave is a mistake or not.

Personally I think George has been superb for Wigan, it's just we're not aware who Maguire is targetting. Let the rumours begin :badg:

Would be sorry to see George go, he's been good for us and plays through the pain barrier most weeks. He gives 100%.
I do agree only 1 year though as he seems prone to injury, even though he plays with em.
He's fine centre.

On the odd occasion he seems to be like a dead man walking. But he gives his all.I would sooner have a wounded George Carmont than Stuart Fielden any day.Although it would be a one year contract for me sadly. :D

George has been a real quality signing far better than Roberts or Riddell regardless of how much or little he has been paid.

The two years is an issue as he is 31 already but Roberts will be 32 when his contract is up.

It depends on who is expected to be available in the next two years. If we go with him for two years then both Goulding and Thornley are blocked by Carmont and Gleeson.

On the other hand do we want one of the two younger players as one of the main centres next year with little cover?

I think we need Carmont next season as a sort of handover season with the two younger players getting games so if he does pick up an injury he doesn't have to play half crocked.

Thinking about it, in a second year he could act as reserve to one of the younger centres but that would require a significant drop in wages which I am sure he doesn't want to take.

It's a tough one for the new coaching team to sort out as we don't have quality centres coming out of our ears whereas the back row is well covered.

Carmont should be given a new contract and maybe a 2 year one.... Lets pay for two years in a one year contract meaning he plays for free in his second year thus allowing us to pick up a new player in the bargain in the second year...does that make sense.... lol

Anyway he must stay!
