What i don't get is how the RFL can say one ref is better than another, when according to them the refs never make a mistake anyway??? :-S

hahaha wrote:A couple of interesting but factually incorrect reports on gansons playing ability/college time. Correct he wasn't very good and didn't play first team very often. I actually recall him causing an all out brawl one of the few times he played 1st team. The opposition had a hooker who was a very good player but only had one arm. At the first scrum ganson shouts come on lads get stuck into this hooker he is Harmless !!!! As you can imagine it kicked off big time and I don't remember ganson being anywhere near the fight. However you can't crucify someone for not being a good player just cause he became a ref. Take him as you find him, he coulde either be real entertainment value on a night out or a pain in the arse who found trouble and then couldn't sort it out. (trust me I know as i saved him a number of times from a beating)
At the end of the day he has made a career and to be fair he has got to the top from mediocre rugby ability. Fair play to him i say!!!!!!!
What the bleeding hell you doing saving this little git from a beating?Surely he deserves a beating just for being Ganson. :D

Nobody did Kooch IMO. He certainly never played in the first team. You had to be a very good to excellent player to make the firsts.

The intriguing part re Ganson whether you think he is a good or bad referee now, he only took up officiating post 16 and he was fast tracked far beyond the norm. One can speculate he knew or befriended somebody in the refereeing hierarchy.

Or he was exceptionally good at that point? Someone with the ability to referee SL isn't exactly 'the norm' I wouldn't have thought.

CP why do you say he never did? Did you play? I'm trying to think who you might be. Ganson played a couple of times for the first team whenever there were injuries, he mainly played 2nd team. I know cause i played in the 1st team. As for the saving him from a beating thats what you do on a night out when someone your out with is about to get his head kicked in or is that not the case ??? Sometimes he was the reason for the trouble and other times it just found him cause he was quite loud. Not a crime in my book

None of the Rugby team were his mates. There were quite a few Aspull lads with Darb obviously the most well known. There were quite a few haydock lads, they played across both teams, some mainly seconds like Gaz Hesketh and a lot of Orrell lads/Wigan lads. Tall red headed Roger? who did well for Orrell St James at open age is one that springs to mind. I do not know any of the rugby lads that would touch Ganson with a barge pole. Most stayed in their own groups formed elsewhere anywhere.

Steve, you were a loner lol

Have moved this back to General RL.

As far as I am aware, Ganson doesn't play for Wigan Warriors
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
