The five captains idea is going to be a 'wait and see' thing.

There is not much proof that the concept works but that could be because not many teams have adopted it. Some people see it as a refreshing change while other will see it as a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' situation.

One thing it will require is some good man management skills from Maguire. Having 5 players effectively competing for the captaincy it could lead to 'one-upmanship' also it could provide a scape goat if the team looses under one captain even if it is not necessarily his fault.

I`ld prefer to wait and see if this new leadership approach is successful.

My thoughts are these shared leaders are okay until things start going wrong .

Then the shudders set in , with why did you not do it my way .

it's OK as long as whoever isn't Captain on the pitch that week accepts it and doesn't try to butt in, and we don't get cliques forming. MM thinks it will work, I have no reason to doubt him.

In my opinion being given the title of captain can make certain people raise their games knowing they have to set a good example to the rest of the team. If the captaincy is given as a reward for a players perfortmance in a previous game it could potentially be a great incentive for players to give 100% week in week out. This could be fantastic particularly if Piggy and Fielden are in the group of 5.

I wouldn't say it is a new concept. As is pointed out by Chris Thorman on the BBC website, Man Utd regularly have different captains to such an extent I don't actually know who their club captain is. Sometimes its Neville, sometimes Giggs or Rooney or Ferdinand.

I personally like the idea. Many on this site have questionned whether Lockers is captaincy material and have voiced opinions as to who should actually be captain. We now have an opportunity to see who steps up the mark as a true leader.

The other point about having a leadership team is that each of them will still have to carry a large degree of responsibility when they are on the pitch regardless of whether they are captain that day or not

I'm just glad that we are already moving away from Lockers. As I have said many times to bore you all to death, whereas he might be all right when things are going well he falls apart under pressure and disappears when the team need him most.

Under Lockers as captain we won nothing, so maybe McGuire has identified this and decided its time for a change!!. No matter how many people and players like Lockers, the truth is he is not captain material. Yes Lockers comes up with some good plays, but he makes far too many errors at cruical times of a game!!!. His head drops and so do the heads of his fellow team mates!!!. The best rugby we've played in years was when Trent Barrett was the skipper and im sure if Barrett was still at the club, McGuire wouldnt hesitate in giving him that role again!!. As we dont seem to have a natuarl captain at the club that can step into the role, it seems McGuire has come up with a new method that the team may be better suited. Good on him for having the balls to change things that havnt worked in the past and lets hope a new leader is unearthed.

I think Lockers has improved in this area but I would have agreed with you after the previous season. I said pretty much the same about Gaz Hock the other day (went down like a lead balloon mind you lol).
