On RedVee recently, one desperate poster wished that Stains had had IL's insight and signed Maguire instead of Harry Potter. Someone responded that hopefully, MMs achievements would be noted back in Oz and he would be snapped up by a big NRL side at the end of this season!

am not to well up on the buying people out of contracts,so can they do that and if so would wigan then be able to name a very large price for his contract to be bought?

The way his coaching career has kicked off, and if IL continues to back him, I reckon he will be with us for quite some time to come. It was simply desperate Plastic Scouse speculation.

He really is a fantastic coach. He has transformed the club and deserves all the credit that he is getting.

Even if he left after 3 years he will still leave a very good legacy in place. He has instilled a greater professionalism and has put structures and training methods in place that will last after he has gone. More importantly there is a core of 'Wigan' people/coaches at the club who will have learned an awful lot while he has been here and will be able to continue his good work. Someone like Shaun Wane could well take over if he continues to develop as a coach and that will give us great continuity.

Don't even think of MM leaving; the very thought makes me break out in a sweat. My worry is that he will do what a lot of Aussie's do, make his name over here and go back home to coach a big club. After three short years it would be simply awful if he left, and everything should be done to keep him here for the long term a la Ferguson up the road. Lasting success comes with mid to long term stability, not a series of three year turn arounds. Just look at what has happened at Saints!

He will and should leave after 3 years IMO. I daresay there will be no shortage of NRL clubs wanting such a young talented coach. If/when he does leave his legacy will be far healthier than the one he inherited.

I've read you say that before. Would the people he leaves behind be able to take over you think or would we need to look to Aus again considering that you feel that after 3 years they need to refresh again because they may have gone stale or methods have moved on(hope I've got that right)

I think as you say that after 3 years any coach needs to go back to the best competition to refresh/update their own knowledge. If the successor is to come from within then IMO during that 3rd year the planned successor should spend 3 months minimum in the NRL with a club or clubs to give them some fresh ideas to take things forward. Otherwise you would have to keep bringing a new NRL coach in each time and the best ones are difficult to get. I think we got one of the best but I think it took IFL time/effort to get him.

In many ways it's a said indictment of the game here that an Aussie assistant coach came here and in a short space of time took essentially the same team as a former GB coach had and transformed it the way he has.

We have few British coaches in the game at SL level and most seem old fashioned in comparison.

I am still flabbergasted at Kears reported comments against us recently when making substitutions. Go and give us some s h 1 t or some such comment. A tactical genius, not.

Maguire had a very short 1st grade paying career and yet managed to help Melbourne to success and has got us playing like a completely different team.

What makes him so special? I am not sure it is exposure to the NRL that is the only factor. Maybe he is an intelligent bloke who is capable of being properly tactical and having the odd original thought about the game as opposed to sending players on to give s h 1 t?
