Johnathan Davies
Is it just me?
It's Challenge Cup time again this weekend and once again we will be treated to the BBC's coverage, which means expert analysis from Johnathan Davies. Every time I see Johnathan in this role he seems awkward and uncomfortable talking League and being with League people. He rarely, if ever, enthuses about the quality of the game. Contrast this with the way he enthuses when he does Union and interacts with ex Union players in studio discussions. Quite noticeable imo.
I think he was a great player, and I really admired the way he took the physical punishment meted out to him when he started at Widnes. However I do think he just takes the BBC's money under false pretences when he does League. Our game deserves better and there are enough outstanding ex-players who would better represent our game.
Am I a lone voice on this?

Re: Johnathan Davies
I like the way he always mentions ex-league players when he comentates on union. Jeremy Guscott hates it in the sam eay Eddie Hemming hates any positive mention on Wigan. I think he does a good job and knows his stuff.

Re: Johnathan Davies
Davies always used to highlight all the negatives of the game of Rugby League.
It was never a burst of speed or a good side step that created the tries, just the poor defence that let the player cross the try line.
He done this for a number of years, and he is another Yawnion puppet set up within the BBC.
Far better pundits available to commentate on Rugby League, but the BBC seldomly allow this.

jonathan Davies has always been a good pundit for our code i reckon.I remember an interview where he said that league was getting to hard for him and he could probably last another 5 plus years in union.I too love it when he makes guscott squirm when he talks up league cos he is one biggoted tosser.

IanB, regarding Guscott. I couldn't agree with you more. My contempt for that self opinionated air-head knows no boundaries. He is a total, full weight prat!

Don't worry, they'll be dusting the cobwebs off Ray "erm" French. Time to bring some fresh blood into the commentary BBC

Must admit, I've never been a fan of his. He has only ever been interested in money, hence his switch to League. He had originally promised Murphy he would sign for St Helens and reneged in the last minute to sign for Widnes.
Then he got a weekly column in the WEP. He was meant to be their Rugby League correspondent but all he ever wrote about was how Widnes were behind with his contract payments!
And his stupid Welsh accent grates as well!

Tip 1: hate WiganTonyIdol wrote:i have been interested in commentating for a while now and i've had thoughts of sending audition tapes into sky and bbc but they look for ppl who have played the game professionally nowadays it seems, anyone know anything about it?
Tip 2: love Leeds and St Helens... and if paid enough, Warrington.
