Re: Karl Pryce
I'm with Geoff, Jury still deffo out... He has been given a great oportunity here but my stomach rolls over when i see his name on the team sheet. BUT he has so far proved he can get over the line. Posts suggest whoever was in on his wing would have too and i guess i would agree with that one too.
Putting aside the brilliant pass back on the inside to George V Hudds, he still looks like he can't be bothered! In the magic game i held my breath everytime he came near a ball, he let balls bounce and knocked a few on too. He must have had nerves though, needing a good game and the more he tried the more he messed up. He just stolls like he wants to be last to the play in a small boy kinda stance, he just doesn't look interested at all.
I hope i'm reading this all wrong cos the likes of St H and Leeds will find him out and we will be stuffed!!
But for now i will try and keep an open mind whilst he is happy to keep banging them over the whitewash.... C'mon Karl prove the doubters wrong!!!

Hmm. I was hoping this thread would put me firmly in my place and force apologies from me for fitness, commitment and weight jibes. But the tentative jury's out means I have to hold off.
When is Amos back??
When is Amos back??

Re: Karl Pryce
I'm hoping for the Cas game in a fortnight, give him a couple of games to get match fit before Saints.weststand-rich wrote:

Re: Karl Pryce
That is true for the first three but I don't think it is fair to hold that against any winger. The last one which despite the fact it was indeed short took a lot more effort.botica wrote:Posts suggest whoever was in on his wing would have too and i guess i would agree with that one too.
I think he knows his way to the try line but my concern is his defence. He's got more in common with Martin Offiah than the likes of Dean Bell as a defender and he's big enough to scare half the opposition team off the pitch but he doesn't.I hope i'm reading this all wrong cos the likes of St H and Leeds will find him out and we will be stuffed!!

Someone meeds to explain to him if he tackles someone really hard but fair and they get carried off as a result it really is OK!

Get off his back and give him a chance! He's scored 8 tries for God's sake!
Re: Karl Pryce
Therein lies my real worry. Fans seem to judge players, certainly backs on tries scored. On that basis Dave O is right to say Shaun Ainscough was treated poorly and should have been selected far more. Where would that leave KP? U20s on Loan? Tries are often an incredibly poor indicator of a players worth.
I am most impressed that KP looks so much better conditioning wise. He could still get even better BUT Rome wasn't built in a day. If he defends his wing well. Fantastic. He he drives the ball up for good yards / quick POTBs. Fantastic but for falling over the try line on 3 out of 4 occasions is the least impressive facet of his game.
The key contributors to scoring tries are odften players who rarely score. Andy Gregory (See Pint Size) famously got annoyed with players going OTT about scoring tries so for part of one game he went and stood on the wing and said let's see them try to score tries now.
So glad KP is improving like all the team BUT if Amos was fit would you select Prycey instead of Pat. I personally would not and think left wing is the best position for KP. However, if / when KP is contributing. Fantastic.
Everybody wants Wigan RLFC to do well. Some are more realistic perhaps? More objective?

Re: Karl Pryce
I totally agree with Geoff and CP on this.
Some people think that he is playing well and are saying he is the form back simply because he has scored 8 tries in 4 games. It is quite unbelievable that some are so easily satisfied. Some of these people are even the same people that wouldnt accept that argument when it came to Ainscough but now do for Pryce. Others on RLFans, such as Rogues and Jonh, have championed him ever since he came and as usual are trying to get their followers to jump on the bandwagon by blowing his performances out of all proportion.
I can safely say that any of Wigan's wingers would have scored those tries if they had been on the left wing. As I said in the past when arguing about Ainscough over 90% of any wingers tries could be described as walk ins and as a result try scoring records mean very little, it is what they do other than this whats important, dummy half running, positioning, kick returns, defence etc. The truth is if he hadnt have scored those tries then he would have done very little of note. Some of those that are praising him now would instead be slagging him off. He still looks slow, his work rate is still poor and he makes few yards from dummy half. He hasnt been tested in defence so it is hard to either praise or criticise him on that. Saying that he was at fault for a try last week but he has also done some decent things too. He has come in and done a job and I would give him a C if I was rating him but anything higher than that is exagerating what he has done and how he has played. He still has potential but still has a very long way to go imo.

Re: Karl Pryce
If you look back at amos/richards stats at the beginning of the year they have many metres gained... yes they have had a couple of 60 metre breaks to boost that up but most of their metres gained come from dummy half and running from the tackle - giving the forwards a rest. Goulding is doing this more often but I am yet to see KP get more involved. This is either a MM tactic or KP would get tired more easily from the extra work.
