Referee for Sunday
Re: Referee for Sunday
Shambolic performance by him tonight, allowing Warrington to camp on the HKR line until they scored.
Penalised HKR because Warrington passed the ball to them (apparently this is a ball steal).
Most annoying one when HKR broke away and then Briers knocked the ball out of Cockayne's hands as he was about to play it. Not a word to Briers when it should have been an automatic sin bin.

correct and Newton would have not have been binned by a good refShaun1967 wrote:Shambolic performance by him tonight, allowing Warrington to camp on the HKR line until they scored.

Smith had Newton lined up for something like this. He had only just given him a warning for being injured.ian b wrote:correct and Newton would have not have been binned by a good refShaun1967 wrote:Shambolic performance by him tonight, allowing Warrington to camp on the HKR line until they scored.

Re: Referee for Sunday
The period leading up to the sin binning is one that Cummings nor the RFL can defend. They will ignore it but a TJ not giving a player in touch when he was 2 yards away and looking at it and then Smith penalising Hull KR absurdly for ball stealing when the Wire player clearly lost the ball led to a situation where the match was taken out of Hull KRs hands. Officials are supposedly accountable. On that basis both TJ and Referee should be demoted for a week/fortnight whatever.

Re: Referee for Sunday
I enjoyed watching Smith give possession to Warrington on the HKR line when warrington player offloaded into the arms of a defender... ripped out? surely not.

Re: Referee for Sunday
the trouble is cummings won`t demote anyone with them being full time refs.we have the stupid situation of a ref doing 2 games in a weekend due to gansons injury, rather than promote one of the younger refs from the lower leagues.cpwigan wrote:The period leading up to the sin binning is one that Cummings nor the RFL can defend. has going full time led to falling standards as they know they won`t be demoted no matter how many mistakes they make?
Re: Referee for Sunday
I tuned in late, but I think I saw the worst of Ian Smith - so blatantly Warrington biased I turned it off. He was actually smiling/grinning with the Warrington players as he was penalising HKR. Never seen anything so disgusting in my life.
Re: Referee for Sunday
I turned it off not long after the sin binning. Frankly it was on a par with bent-ham's performance in the CC. Wire infringed constantly and were never pulled up for it. As a spectacle Smith completely ruined it.
Funnily enough I was watching it with my Dad and he said "I used to enjoy watching rugby league; but the referees have ruined the game" I have to say I am starting to think that he may be right and unless something is done soon (getting rid of the **** in charge would be a start) then I think that we can look forward to attendances declining.
Smith was biased throughout the game and some of the decisions were so bad as to be bizarre. If he isn't corrupt then they should sack him for being completely inept because he clearly doesn't have the first idea of what he is doing.
Briers should have been in the bin on more than one occasion - I thought that his performance when he was grabbed on both shoulders should have been a straight red. He would embarrass most continental wendyball players with the amount of play acting he does. There is no place for it in rl and the sooner this disgrace to the game retires and we are rid of him forever the better.
wire obviously have the backing of the rfl and whilst they clearly aren't looking too closely at their accounts; I didn't think that things would get this bad.
The one thing that we can take from the game is how to treat refs. The wire fans spent most of the match trying to influence the referee and giving him abuse (not that it was really needed on that performance). Think that we should give it a try - especially the next time we are lumbered with bent-ham
