Re: Coley sending off
Total agreement it should have been a red - no issues!
My issue is that it was not Childs decision, it was Bentham chirping in his ear. If you watch the video you'll see what I mean.
A few posts have said it's good to see the ref making a straight decision - but it wasn't the ref who made the decision.
My question remains - Is it OK for the video ref to intervene in such a decision. I don't think so??!!

That's correct. It's not a rule I agree with, but it is the rule.wiggydoran wrote:I am told you can not get a Yellow card for a high tackle.
It is red or nothing. The card is given if the ref judges it to be dangerous and/or on purpose.
If you see a penalty were a yellow is given for a high tackle then it is for persistent offending.
I think it should have been a red.

I agree it was a defo a sin binning, and most probably red card worthy. I wouldn't have been happy had it have been coming in the other direction, thats for sure. As others have said though, it's the consistancy that sucks.
Has anyone got a video linky to the JP & S.Tomkins incident? Would love to compare them.

Hadn't realised you couldn't get a yellow for a high tackle, so correct decision a red then, though I wish more refs would have the guts to do it as I've seen worse unpunished. I suspect the fact that it's red or nothing influences the ref to not showing a card and only putting on report.
If a rule change to Yellow for what appears unintentional and red for what appears deliberate, then we would see more cards issued and perhaps players sorting out their technique.
The difficulty there would be interpretation which would probably lead to more inconsistencies.

Re: Coley sending off
You could argue Giving yellow cards for a high tackle that is not deemed deliberate but still dangerous means that teams that the offence is against advantage for 10 mins. Unlike now were a player is placed on report and a team next week may get the advantage.

Case Number ON/493/10
Name Scott Moore
Club St Helens
Shirt Number 16
Match Leeds v St Helens
Competition Super League
Date 03/07/10
Incident considered High tackle in 28th minute (Donald)
Decision No charge
Details of Charge / Reason for NF Player makes initial contact with back of opponent, lazy attempt, not malicious, penalty sufficient
Moore gets this ^^^^
yet Coley gets done as it says high tackle whole body to go for....erm so has every tackler.
Also says Coleys was malicious, double standards if you ask me.

Yes i think it was a Red card, however if the RFL hand out any ban then i think the club should appeal using the video evidence of Peabrain on Tomkins.
