Fielden And Coley Sign New Deals

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors Prop Forwards Stuart Fielden and Andy Coley have signed new contracts with the Club.

Stuart has agreed a two year contract for Seasons 2011 and 2012, whilst Andy has signed for 2011 with an option for 2012.

Speaking about the news, Head Coach Michael Maguire said:

"We are delighted that both players have agreed extension terms. Stuart and Andy have both been outstanding for us this year and have played a big part in helping us finish top of the table. Both are strong powerful forwards with a tremendous attitude and they will undoubtedly play an important role as we go into the business end of this Season and beyond."

Stuart Fielden said:

"I am thrilled to have agreed a contract for the next two seasons. Under Michael and the coaching staff, the Club is heading in the right direction and I want to be a part of any future success. I always wanted to stay as I am really enjoying my rugby.Wigan is a great Club with wonderful fans.

"The Club has a superb group of players with a good mix of youth and experience, it is a very exciting time at the Club."

Andy Coley added:

"I am pleased that my future at Wigan has been secured. I have enjoyed my time here so far and, hopefully, the League Leader's Shield success is only the first part of silverware to come. There is a great atmosphere at the Club and I feel that I am thriving on the added responsibility of being a part of the Leadership Group under Madge."

Stuart joined Wigan in June 2006 from Bradford Bulls and has made 108 starts for the Club plus 20 appearances off the bench, scoring 3 tries, whilst Andy joined the Warriors in 2007 from Salford City Reds and has made 82 starts, 8 as a replacement, scoring 10 tries so far.

Don't know why they waited so long to announce it

We need to get our young forwards to progress whilst the experience wind down their careers

I think the club are struggling with the cap. Lots of young players are justifiably having their contracts increased and so are some established players.

Personally, if Davies is going I would rather we loaned him out for a full season and take it from there although I guess that depends on his contract.

The club may have decided to develop Mossop as a prop which impacts on the likes of Davies. In 2010 we will have Fielden, Coley, Lima and Prescott/O'Carroll vying for 4 prop spots so that leaves Ben as 6th choice possibly lower.

That's more or less the same depth that we had this season though, with Lima a straight swap for Feca. Great news about Coley & Fielden, but I'd be disappointed if Ben was let go - this season has shown that we need the depth available.

When my source told me I asked him loan or permanent and he said permanent. Personally I would be overjoyed if it is a season long loan.
