Don't forget the 0-75 result was in the occupation time of "AGENT MILLWARD" a very low period of the club IMO. But one should always learn from history and never forget it.

No. That 75-0ing was the absolute lowest of the low for me.
The derby against Sts has value because they are nemsises. They are very good and so beating them has extra cache. That entire game watched through gritted teeth, a steadfast test of the definition of supporter.
If we had been alcoholics, that game would have been the metaphorical rock bottom that would have sent you scampering to Alcoholics Anonymous for treatment.

Remember my first Wembley final we got beat 12-6 by St Helens. Billy Boston had a try disallowed in the corner was a sweltering day people going over like nine pins .Getting on the special train at midnight on Wigan WALLGATE and doing the route via Yorkshire only arriving at Wembley at 9-15 the next day.Return train was only going back again at midnight my grandad was an ex railway guard and did us a deal leaving at 7-00pm getting into Wigan north west at 2-30am walking home to Norley hall.cpwigan wrote:The pain Kooch, the pain
I was 16 or 17 at the time and I think at that age it hurts more particularly when you are expected to win. My first Wembley Final with Wigan was the Widnes / Joe Lydon defeat and oddly the Wigan fans were happier that day than the Widnes ones. We were just happy to be there, win or lose. Now Paddy Kirwin![]()

Lets win it for Terry Newtons memories

Well said that man!!The 75 nil drubbing is something that hurt on the day and still hurts now. It is something that will always be thrown back in our faces by the stains. And quite rightly so as I'm sure we would do the same. All I ask of the lads next week is to make us proud come win or lose. Play the rugby that as entertained us all season long. Give your all even if it is in defeat. Because I firmly believe that if it is not this year it most certainly is on the way next year.I am proud of what the lads have achieved this season and shall continue to be proud until the day I die. I shall continue to be proud that I was born a Wigan lad and will die a Wigan lad.And not a Stain.

Cp - that was my first Wembley too and one of my greatest memories was the quarter final at Knowsley Rd. Then we pot York (!!) in the semi and I was so pleased to be there, knew it was the start of something big and the final puting to bed of the season in the second division.

Winning the last derby the s**thole more than made up for that, we have also beat them at the last ever match played there. The Under 20s won also yesterday against them so thats good enough for me.Kittwazzer wrote:In 1989 we nilled them by 27 at Wembley. Total humiliation. It was sublime!
If we win next week, we will arrive at our first Grand Final in 7 years and inflict on them their fourth consecutive Grand Final defeat.
So my question is simply this. Would that make us even for the 0-75 or would we still owe them?
IMO, we would be at least even.

So I suppose my next question is:
When do we get Tee Shirts printed and what should they have on them?

I agree. It has never bothered me half as much as it probably should. The team, the coaching, the signings, the injuries and just about every aspect of the club were a complete joke at the time. If it happened now it would be humiliating but at the time, with the team that was playing, it just seemed sort of inevitable.cpwigan wrote:The 75 never hurt IMO because it was part of a calamatous period and embarassment was a weekly occupation following Wigan back then.
