Proud of the lads

Post by Jim The Warrior »

I've watched the last 3 matches in the hope that we did not get a thrashing which would damage the confidence of our youngsters. Well, they have all been brilliant and deserved more than the three points they won. We can't expect the Warriors to win every match , all we can ask is that they continue to show the same skill and commitment when they play "lesser" teams.

The whole of Wigan should be proud of the lads. Tell your mates how well they are playing and try to get them to come to a game. The lads deserve better gates.

you speak sense

they do deserve better gates, but wigan has alot of work to do to get back the 5-6000 weekly fans it has lost

i think we now have a hardcore of around 7000 and that has been proved can be doubled even tripled for big games, the club needs marketing and offers to the hilt to win these fans back

lets start with half price season tickets starting after the wolves game!

Every regular wigan fan, bring your husband, daughter, girlfriend, mate, brothers girlfriend, fellas even your mother in law! lol!

just get as many bodies as you can down there for games and lets give these kids the opportunity to play in front of 15-20000 weekly

Yeah there's got to be something we can do. Bradford did something to improve their fans They got about 20 000 against one of the bottom teams (Can't remember who) and I know Bradford is obviously a bigger place and may have local fans but in the past we've had massive weekly crowds, where is everyone? :(

Why not let all kids in for free ( up to 16 ). This would then bring in paying parents.

Bradford used to give out 3-4000 tickets to schools and local rugby teams - this would also be a good idea.

I totally agree that the lads deserve a big audience and i personally tell anybody who will listen how good they are. SPREAD THE WORD!!

I see what your all saying but there must be 2-3,000 hard core fans who refuse to go to the JJB since we left central park.Im guessing that figure but looking at how the gates are now it cant be too far off. I mean these people actually think staying away will make a difference, well it does, but not for the better.

I myself living in liverpool have being converting all the lads at uni along with my g.f and her family. if every fan just got 1 person each to come along to a hom game the think of the attendance increase!

I dragged my little brother to matches week in/ week out n he eventually got into rugby n started playing for our local team. He has become a huge fan and had also been selected to play for Lancashire - he also hopes that one day he will grace the jjb pitch in cherry and white!

You've hit the nail on the head by identifying the fact that the club needs to be marketed and publicised more. It helps being tied in with Rock FM, but as Lancashire Lynx found to their cost, the folks in Preston are (on the whole) footy folk.
I help out at Fylde kick and clappers and they offer free kids admission to get the punters through the door. Makes sense, as they bring paying parents and pester to buy merchandise. The kids also get the lifelong bug to be aligned to the club.
In line with the original thread of this message though, good to see the youth of Wigan playing so well and giving the speckies something to cheer about!
The only way is up....!

It does make sense to let youngsters in for next to nothing because like the players they are our future. I think over the last couple of seasons the fan base has altered, probably since we left Central Park and the core is a lot younger now. We all miss Central Park but we aint going back there so there's no point missing out on some brilliant rugby just cos you don't like the stadium. All this enthusiasm and singing and shouting is terrific and personally I've loved every match this year and can't wait for the next one
