New Signs

Post by cherrywarrior »

Sorry if a thread has already been started, but has everyone seen the new signs on the way unto Wigan?

Underneath "Home of Premiership football and Super League Rugby" there is a new sign that says "Wigan Warriors Superleague Champions 2010"

Get in there! I still in shock, I cant quite believe it was so easy in the end!
Wish list: Billy Slater please!!!!!!!!

Got told its changing due to complaints from latics fans. Think it should be home of super league champions and premiership football.

Apparently the wendy ballers have been spitting out their dummies (James Graham a latics fan?) and the council has reacted

They still aren't happy as its the 'Premier League' and not the 'Premiership'.

I am a Wigan Warriors fans writing a letter of response to the article posted in the Wigan Evening Post about the signs in Standish relating to some Wigan Athletic Supporters anger. Now has I understand I am sure you fully support both teams and try to treat both teams equal. But has you read my letter we don’t get treated fairly. The Town of Wigan has been a Rugby League Town from back in the days now when Wigan Athletic came into the the top division from my knowledge all the council did support them now I may be wrong and I hope I am but I wanted to know what your point of view was on this issue and what your response is on a councils behalf.

Yes its great to see the big clubs playing here in Wigan such Has your Man United's, Chelsea's Liverpool's and also Arsenal's but from the the day I where born until the day I die I have supported and will continue to support Wigan Warriors and will many other people but not may Wigan Athletic fans can say that. Most Wigan Athletic fans around the town support Liverpool and Man United and only go watching Wigan Athletic due to how cheap the season ticket prices are this is proven by there attendances for instance when I went watching them play Preston North End (who I support) in the Carling Cup the attendance that night was 6,987. Wigan Warriors lowest attendance this season just gone was 12,001 against the Catalan Dragons (France). Wigan Warriors have won more trophies and have a larger fan base not just in the town of Wigan and surrounding areas but worldwide in places such as Europe and also Down Under in Australia and New Zealand. From my point of view all the council has done over the years is support and back Mr Dave Whelan and Wigan Athletic for example when we had to change our playoff game in September 2008 against Bradford where we where pushed out of the JJB Stadium has it was then and made to play at the Stobbart Stadium in Widnes which is 24 miles away. Also earlier in that season we had to play on a Monday night against Whitehaven in the Challenge Cup due to Manchester United playing Wigan on the Saturday before which was the Title decider between Chelsea and Manchester United. Even earlier to that this season Wigan Athletic where due to play Blackpool away on the first game of this years Premier League Season but due to problems at Bloomfield Road it was changed to the DW once again, so that meant we had to change our game to the Sunday it was originally scheduled for the Friday 13th. So has I quote what Martin Tarbuck has Said “The council have never done anything for Wigan Athletic, other than put obstacles in the way over the years, and Latics have made great strides in spite of them and not because of them“ But has I can see and so can many other Wigan Warriors fans there has been no obstacles put in the way of Wigan Athletic or its Fans and its just a cry of support to the council once again. I would like to thank Paul Farrington on congratulating us on winning the Engage Super League, which is very hard being at the top of the table all season.

I don't see why just being in the Premier League deserves a street sign. I haven't noticed equivalent signs in any other town in the PL.

Jimbo1990 did you get someone to read that for you before you sent it.

"But has you read my letter ..........."

"such Has your Man United's......"

If you are going to write a letter of complaint at least write one in English. That way it wont get screwed up and laughed at "has" the ramblings of a child.

As a lifelong Latics fan, I have absolutely no problem with the Warriors celebrating their victory – congratulations to them.

But the council had just dismissed the fact that we even have a football team. Driving through the town as you leave the motorway, you wouldn’t have even known Premier League football exists here.”
I have no problem with Latics being in the Premier League, it benefits the town massively and is a fantastic achievement, but that quote right there is a gem!
