Re: Central Park JJB/DW
My memories of Central Park are of course of all the many good times.
But; the view was so poor we had to take camping stools to stand on to see what was going on. The toilets were smelly cesspits and the facilities for ladies were an embarrassment. The ground sloped and sometimes produced a soggy pitch down by Central Park way,and there were roof supports to block many views. It was out of date, and well past its sell-by date. It may have been bigger than Knowsley Road or Naughton Park, but was no better as a stadium.
Off the field the club hadn't been run well and was effectively bankrupt. And the great team we'd once had was getting old and inevitably had lost its aura.
Some may have issues with Mr Whelan, but without him we might not have had a club at all, so I think vitriol directed that way is misplaced. He bailed us out in our darkest hour and for that we should all be eternally greatful. (See "Playing to Win" at all good bookshops).
So I for one don't regret the move to the new stadium for a second. Let's enjoy our success and put it down to being a well run club (again). The stadium is alright and will do very nicely thank you for years to come.

Much as I miss the old place, I don't think it's in any way to blame for the relative lack of success. I don't even think it had a lot to do with the dramatic reduction in attendances, which really started earlier, and had more to do with the switch to Summer rugby.
Re: Central Park JJB/DW
That's why we stick to rugby. We know nowt nor want to know owt about the round ball game.I will give you credit though! Credit for sticking with a sinking ship. Most sensible folk would have jumped overboard by now.Good on ya for checking into our forum for an insight on the real man's game.Lets hope you stick around. And you know what? So you think I'm a troll, lol!
My roundball team is definitely not sinking at the mo.
I find it great to have an open mind to any sport, therefore I support my local teams at RL & Football.
Is this not acceptable?
BTW my first match I attended at Central Park was v Hunslet in 1965, I wore short pants at the time!
This was 2 years after attending my first First Division football match, in which my local team was playing.
You never know, I might be able to teach you something!
Your blinkers would need to be removed first though!!

Mmm well your statement was blinkered WW. You are not alone I.E Both Sports. Hence your statement smacked of being a troll or ill considered.

Correct, a rugby forum with grown up people!
Did the wink on my original post not say it all, or is there a humour transplant needed in certain quarters?
