Maybe Betts will make the grade, but he needs to spread his wings and experience rugby away from Wigan IMO.
His "education" will not be enhanced unless he flies the nest (comfort zone) and perfects his craft where his (percieved) mistakes aren't as high profile.
One club men are rarely successful once their playing days are over and they take the hot seat at the same club.
I now watch the posts with interest as GeoffN proves me wrong!
Fair points, Dave!
I agree it would have been better for Denis to have more time learning the coaching game; that's why he was assistant coach - but with MG's illness we didn't have that option.
Once in that situation, though, he should be given a fair crack at it, with a relatively full squad. Our results to date are much more to do with our injuries than the coaching (IMO !)...I'm still confident that, if we can keep the remaining squad (accepting the loss of Faz, O'Loughlin and Hock, but bearing in mind Saints' collapse last year, after losing just 2 players, not 3!) we'll be competitive for the remainder of the season.
I'm fed up with the "instant success" mentality that has seen us go through so many coaches recently, without giving any of them a fair chance.
He was "coach of the month" not very long ago! (ok, that's voted on by RL journalists, but some of them do know what they're talking about!)
