Re: Gleeson
Clubcall site suggests that representatives of Gleeson met the Board on Saturday and mutually agreed to terminate his contract, this conflicts with Wiki on Gleeson where it it says he has gone on loan to Harlequins.
Sometime some day we might get to know the Official statement

Re: Gleeson
This looks like a total non-story but I'll post it anyway.
http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... 1bl7h.html
Meanwhile, mystery surrounds speculation that former England centre Martin Gleeson could be on his way to the NRL with his career at Wigan seeming to be at an end. He did not play in Friday's match against Salford.
Wigan are refusing to comment on his future at the club. Gleeson has expressed interest in playing in the NRL.
Melbourne recruitment manager Frank Ponissi, who had considered signing Gleeson when he was in Australia for the 2008 World Cup, was unaware that he might again want to join the NRL.
The Storm have a wealth of centres in Beau Champion, Chase Stanley, Dane Nielsen and Matt O'Neill, and do not have any room under the salary cap for more signings this season.
Melbourne are expected to be close to full strength for their match against Manly on Saturday night at AAMI Park

Quality centre, still one of the best in SL.

Why not?
apart from the driving ban, does he have any other convictions?

Re: Gleeson
not that I know of but its recent and he's going for a work visa rather than a visitors visa. A mate of mine was refused a work visa 6 months ago because of a ban for driving without insurance. It seems pretty strict to me on that evidence. And yes he had declared it. As far as I know you need to declare any dealings you've had with the police whether charged or not and they seem to look for any reason not to let people in.exile in Tiger country wrote:gpartin wrote:Gleeson won't get a Visa.

Re: Gleeson
Australia are strict with Visa's and only hand them out to people with certain qualifications that they could use i.e. a few years ago they only wanted doctors and plumbers. im not saying everyone else is rejected but it makes it harder to get in especially with a conviction (driving ban)
Re: Gleeson
I don't think the club swept anything under any rugs DaveO, and I don't think anyone with conviction can suggest otherwise. Hock has worked hard, kept clean and is on the verge of a return. Gleeson has had warning after warning and changed nothing.DaveO wrote:And you don't think that is exactly what the club will be accused of when Hock returns?botica wrote:Good on the club not sweeping misdemeanours under the carpet like other clubs do with their stars.
On the NRL suggestion, he will never in a million get a Visa. They are so strict. Good luck to the club that does take a chance, hope they have a strong coach and management.
