I seem to be in the minority here, but my opinion! I think Joel Tomkins has the ability to be one of the best forwards Wigan has produced......what is holding him back is this hot-headedness which results in him doing some very rash things on the pitch, and giving away a lot of penalties! Yes I agree Ganson didnt have his best game, but Joel is a professional rugby player, regardless of whats happened to his brother during the game, he should concentrate on his own game! I have seen many a player (30 years a wigan supporter) involved in a punch up, then take the 1st ball up, and just get on with it.....after all it is a contact sport! But today Joel went into that drive with intent.....he raised the elbow and could have caused some serious damage to the opposition player! Regardless of the team or player, we dont need that in the game! Joel deserved the sending off, and I can see him getting 4/5 games!

Stuart Cummings was at the game today, I saw him climbing the steps of the west stand before the game so he certainly doesn't need to wait to see a video.

Couldn't understand what Ganson was up to today, thought we missed him last year but his performance today was like a cross between Bentham and Alibert.

Joel getting the ball at the time he was sent off was an accident waiting to happen and was as much down to adrenalin as anger. Maybe Ganson should really have sent both Joel and Yeaman to the sinbin for 10 minutes when they had the fisticuffs and let them both cool down a bit.

On the other hand how much damage to Sam are the officials going to ignore? The lad will be a cripple by the time he is 30 at this rate.

And through all this Manu stays on he field.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

But it happens Matt.

Today was akin to an amateur match in officiating and we know what happens in those games or French RL which spiral out of control.

Every player is different. Gaz Hock would not stand and take thuggery. Not will Joel Tomkins. Neither would Wally Lewis. Kel Skerrett, Platty, Neil Cowie, Dean Bell, Andy Gregory and so on.

If the referee takes control you get a proper game if the referee has no control you get a free for all.

Exactly OJ. Spell in the sin bin and we avoid what followed. Deal with early attacks and we get none of what happened and how the game descended into such a farce.

when yeaman throws punches and connects surely Joel has the right to defend himself? The touch judge should have had him sin binned and the next incident wouldnt have happened.Again ganson fell short in his ability to control a game he is a dick.

I agree. I think Joel getting the ball then was asking for trouble because of what had gone on before.

I agree with that as well. He had no protection and had we done the same to their full back Agar would have burst a blood vessel making his post match comment.

Exactly. Ganson is not a ref I expect to lose control of a game butIiMO he had done so by this time.

There are a few points i would like to make on this.

1. Ganson should have yellow carded Tomkins and Yeaman for fighting.

2. Tomkins should have never taken the next ball uo.

3. Tomkins should have kept a lid on his emotions.

Ganson did not protect our players as much as he could have done. But you can not take the law into your own hands.

Sorry CPW. Much as I agree about Ganson's game today, you can't put Joel's temperament on a par with those players. Joel is a liability. He was the most penalised player last season and his temperament needs sorting. And bloody quick!

Different era though KW but there will always be players, particularly forwards that are more fiery in nature than others.

Incidentally, are we 100% sure that Joel made contact first to Yeomans face with his elbow / forearm? I only ask because Joel's natural style is to dip and push opponents away with his forearm. Any possibility that he made contact with chest then face?

When Wigan won the title last year it put a big target on our backs. Teams will be playing spoliing tactics with us all year. Sam will get worse than that this year. Wigan are most deadly in attack when Sam joins the line and he will be targeted all season. Joels run looked bad as it happend just in front of me and he has not got to get involved. How Yeaman went unpunnished is nothing more than a shambles

every time I go to a game with Ganson as ref all the talk is about him not the game.

I am more pleased with the fact that we won ugly today. we didnot play well and still got 2 points. They came to spoil and lie on and disrupt our play but in the end we dealt with it. sam got the last word with the penalty anyway
