No Wigan found the military guy from their contacts. Gaz Hock funded the coach out of his own pocket. Contrary to what some people think the ban cost Hock a lot financially.
Who could have thought otherwise? Sean Long only got banned for 3m and IIRC it cost him over sixty grand!!

You read some people especially elsewhere talking as if Hock has been rewarded KW which is crazy. His ban should be used as a case study on how to avoid players going to a very dark place post ban.

Re Wigan Athletic I thought PL clubs relegated got 'parachute' money if relegated so for 12 months or even 18 months their income does not fall but I concur if Latics spiralled downwards we may have to buy the stadium lol

LOL, apparently the lease is too good to be true. 50 years paying less than you could buy and maintain a stadium for... I wouldn't be considering buying either.

The money saved on the likes of Gleeson, Carmont, Coley and Deacs is being used to give younger squad members better and longer contracts. IL stated that he wanted to divide the salary cap more evenly across the squad.

Think he was posting via his Blackberry :roll:

Out of 32 first team players 22 are Wigan born or trained.

He's very disappointed regarding Madge, who also is leaving with regret. He would like to see him back here in 5 years.

Before Madge signed, an assistant coach in the NRL could not sign to be a full coach in SL, something to do with the Border Agency & Work permits. It took six months to be able to sign him. The ruling changed because of negotiations between Wigan & the Agency!

2012 out of contract players are;

Stuart Fielden, Ben Davies, Amos Roberts, Michael McIllorum, Brett Finch, who Mr Lenegan says will more than likely leave.

Sean O'Loughlin, who's wages don't count towards the salary cap due to being at the same club for ten years :) who has told me he wants to finish his career at Wigan & was never tempted to leave for the NRL even tho he had offers.

The club are constantly in talks with the RFL at ways to make the salary cap work for every club. It was Wigan who brought in the ruling above re a player at one club for ten years, so releasing extra money to pay younger players.

The Challenge Cup & Wembley provide more money to the club than the play-offs as the revenue has to be shared out.
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Indeed, tbf from day 1 IL has stated he wanted to spread the cap amongst the players rather thann pay a few a lot more and the majority very little.
