Nothing we could have done other than put Pat at fullback he's the most experienced on the pitch playing at #1 against SL opposition. Plus he hasn't exactly had the specialised fullback training as much as the next player has he?

Sadly I fear we have lost the Roberts of 2010 he would have been perfect for us today with Sam at 6

This was Pat's first stint at full back for ages, so, I for one wont be judging him on todays performace.
If he was asked to fill the shirt on a full time basis, I am sure he would do it very well.

So do I but that doesn't mean Sam is a full back. Do you think he the likes of Hampson, Radlinski or Richards would have missed the catch for the Bull's first try? I don't. When Hampson was playing it was so pointless putting up bombs and teams just gave up doing it. With Sam at FB teams will regularly do bomb because they know he is vulnerable. He is also not big enough to stop big players one-on-one so defensively I don't think he is up to the job. In SL he can get away with it v lesser sides but against the top sides I just don't think he is effective at 1.

I am pretty certain Dave that Sam is as big as Hampo

I have my doubts about that as I seem to recall Hampo having arms like tree trunks and being of altogether stockier build.

He was certainly the master of taking the high bomb.

DaveO the game has moved on.

I agree Sam needs to Improve under the high ball but to be fair the wind was howling and it was a good leap by Royston.

Rads is my hero but the role of fullback is different now. you just have to look at Hodgson at wire, Webb at Leeds Hayne at Parramatta and Slater at the storm. The Hooker now needs to play like an extra half back at times and it's the same for a fullback.

Sam is doing well at FB thats the first high ball hes dropped in a while but the wind was horrific so I think he gets the benefit of the doubt with that 1 for me.

Sam is not the same body type as hampo but he would be of similar size and weight to hampo, hampo was more closer to being a mesomorph sam is more of a ecto-mesomorh. Personally I think Sam's build is very similar to that of a Mr Darren Lockyer and he aint done too bad.

Yesterday was a tough game of frustration, Bratfurt are due a bounce back win maybe we held that off a bit longer than they had hoped but they played with a lot of determination and did very well with 12 men, Briggs also utilised the wind excellently, Briggs, Royston and Ah Van where awesome IMO but hey we did enough and sometimes these tough nitty gritty games do you a world of good!

I am confident that ST is bigger than Hampo was in his playing days.

It is one of the areas that Sam needs to improve but the plusses far outweigh the negatives e.g. 50+ tries in 70 odd games. I am sure that Hampo will be working with Sam to improve this aspect of his game.

Full backs can be purely defensive with a bit of attack or more attack and less on defense or the ultimate, great defense and great attack like Paul Wellens oops, meant to say Kris Radlinski!!
