Crusaders - Friday

So, here we are, the end of the regular season, and we face Crusaders, who are playing thier last Superleague Game for what may be some time. In spite of their fate being sealed, rather cruelly a few short weeks ago, the players have still turned up and played for their fans week in week out.

Let's be fair, the tact, of lack therefore of, in announcing the withdrawl of the license application, was not one that anyone would wish on any player.

So, with the game on Friday being a Heritage Game, and The Crusaders bowing out, may I propose that the usual "Booo" welcoming them to the field is replace with applause and cheers from Wigan to show appreciation for playing on!

Of course, feel free to shoot me down, but I just feel that they deserve to hear a massive crowd applaud them as they take to the field to say thank you and goodbye.

I come from the 'Old School' of rugby league supporter where you always give your opponents respect, applaud them for any good moves or good tries scored & applaud them for the effort they have put in & playing to entertain us!

I can never understand why people boo the opposition.

I'm another old 'un who was brought up to applaud any good play, regardless of who it comes from. If I see a good try, kick, pass, I will applaud it. I love the game of rugby league regardless of who is playing and anyone who plays it with skill deserves praise.

Admitedly, cheering as loud as I can with pure joy is reserved for Wigan!

Maguire Keen To Bounce Back

Wigan Warriors return to Super League action at the DW Stadium on Friday looking to bounce back following the disappointing result at Warrington.

The game against the Crusaders which has an 8pm kick off is a celebration event and has been deemed Heritage Day by the Club.

This will see the Club celebrate and reminisce about its illustrious history by inviting past players to a private reunion at the DW Stadium before kick -off. These players will then be introduced to the crowd before forming a guard of honour to welcome the current team onto the pitch before kick- off.

Head Coach Michael Maguire admitted he was disappointed with the performance last time out,

"As a group we were all very disappointed and we didn't reach the standards we have set which are high. I am glad it was a regular round game and we now have a chance to go into the Finals and we can rectify what we did last weekend.

"There were no excuses we were beaten on the day by a better team. This weekend is an important game for us and we build towards the Finals. This group is a hungry group and we will fix up what happended on the weekend.This brought us back down to earth and it's about us getting back to what we do well."
