Leeds are getting better crowds for Class C games than us, eg Quins, Salford... The only reason why we're better is our marketing of games such as Crusaders

Leeds may get reasonable home support, but nobody does better away support than Wigan. The League needs more Wigans and it's up to the other clubs to push and develop themselves and the game.

I wouldn't criticize marketing if it's put more bums on seats. After all people go to watch football and yawnion in big numbers, and it's hardly because of the product on the field.

The last 1/4 of the season hurt our average. SL as a whole seemed to lose momentum and impact.

Yorkshire clubs had an unfair advantage with 7 Yorkshire SL clubs to 5 Lancashire so the presence of Widnes should boost our average.

Iniatives via marketing are fantastic.

We should always bear in mind that Leeds and Bradford are 2 of the biggest cities in the country and have a much bigger population to draw support from than than all other teams in Super League. Most other teams are from much smaller towns. If you look at the average attendance in terms of the population of the town/city where the club is based, Wigan still come out tops but Warrington and Castleford do really well. Hull combined get 20,000 average but again Hull is a large City.
I think we should be very proud to get 16,000 average and especially to beat Leeds!!

if a seat remains empty for a game the club make nothing from it obviously. but if we did a last minute ticket price of say £5 on sale 20 mins before the game kicks off on certain games where we know the stands wont be filled it could prove to be a winner.

i'd say 20 mins into a match. We have about 1,500-2,000 walk-up fans that pay on the day or week. They can just easily wait outside and save £12. I wouldn't mind going for £5 after 20 minutes and missing a wellens hat trick next week.

Correct. And every empty seat that gets an arse on it adds to the atmosphere! :)

Not sure why you'd want a stains/dire fan in every empty seat though ;)
Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured. Rugby League players spend 80 minutes pretending they're not.

Also, a cheap ticket for this match will hopefully result in some one coming to matches paying the full whack or even getting a season ticket next year.
But what you are forgetting is that under the terms of our lease with Dave Whelan we play rent free but he personally gets all the revenue from pies/food/beer so no gain there but tickets at £3 when they would not sell anyway is still good marketing, I hope the cheap tickets to the LEA that someone else was pushing are going to the pupils and not the staff as that way we might get their dads and mums along as well.

I don't think we play 'rent free' but we do have a good deal over the rent.
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
