Let me guess the conversation went something like this:-
'That bloody Frinch and Lime are friggin useless Frank, back in my day they wouldn't have lasted 2 bloody minutes!'
'Bloody right Ted, they couldn't lace your boots!'

Re: Finchy
I have noticed a tendency amongst some Wigan "supporters" to choose a player and focus all their bitter vitiol on that one player.mike binder wrote:whilst getting my ticket for sunday , the gang of grandads in the q were telling me how bad finchy and lima have been a total waiste of money , im sure some people go to these matches and leave there glasses at home . finchy has been great since he got his fitness back
This player can have the game of their lives for 79 minutes, make one tiny error, and be subject to a rage out of all proportion to the error. All their good work having been ingnored.
lockers got a lot of this a couple of years ago.
I often wonder why these people bother to attend, as they never seem to get any enjoyment from any aspect of the game.

Its time to give Finchy a new song. He deserves it. Given his history and his slow acceptance by the wigan fans I think to the tune of winter wonder land his new song should be:-
We thougtht he was s-h-i-t-e
But now he's alright

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Finchy
A bit late to this but I'll throw my pound in.
I wasn't one of the "send him home" brigade at the start of the season but neither am I part of the "best thing since sliced bread" throng now.
He's clearly not a bad player (someone with his NRL record can't just be dismissed lightly) but I remain very disappointed with him and don't see where all this over-the-top praise comes for him now.
He's done nothing this season that young Mellor couldn't have done given a similar run in the team.
I'm not suggesting "he's not fit to wear the shirt", I'm not suggesting he's "not trying" and I'm not suggesting that he won't "come good" next season. I am, however, registering that I personally feel he has been a disappointment this season. Even allowing for the injury he had when he came here.

I thought he was ****
But nows he alright.
Is that good enough for wigan. He does some good stuff, but also some poor stuff.
Re: Finchy
I would've put him on a plane in March but always hoped he would get the hang of his team mates because i was so frustrated that things he should be capable of without match fitness weren't being executed. He has done that to a large extent. I'm happy with him, i think he does a lot of important things well.
One thing of note is he is an experienced player. Mellor could very well have produced some of the individual moments we remember but he wouldn't have done all the things we don't notice from the stands as well as an experienced player like Finch does. Don't forget, Mellor would have made mistakes too. Everybody makes mistakes.

Mellor is perfect to play alongside Finch! They would compliment each over and take some of the work load off Sam.
