Re: Sam
Re: Sam
I'm getting REALLY sick of everytime we lose a game this old chestunt about "they couldn't be bothered" gets wheeled out.
It might come as a surprise to some, but Billy Boston had bad games. Shawn Edwards had bad games. Ellery Hanley had bad games. Andy Farrell had bad games. Sean O'Loughlin has bad games.
Our three-quarters and Sam are knackered. Largely because they've played every week virtually and because Maguire hasn't rested them enough in "easier" games. Marsh or Goulding could have had a hit up against Crusaders last week, but they didn't. Whether this is because Maguire doesn't rate the replacements or not is another question.

Re: Sam
No fast POTB and no metres made up front. No gaps created by other players running varity of attacking lines/decoy runs. Nothing from dummy half to get us rolling and slow ball through hands of Deacs and Finch
Would Lomax and Gaskell have made all the carrying yards they did if they faced this yesterday? We played badly, so Sam can't do everything. If he'd have passed wide when he knocked on we might be remembering the second half differently, but he knocked on so we didn't score and didn't get the momentum to get on top of them.
Farrell played at the level i would expect yesterday. Others 'did a job' without doing anything explosive or progressive. All in all we weren't good enough - not 'sam wasn't good enough'

Re: Sam
He's the only player that looked like breaching the Saints line in the first half, that puts the other guy's efforts into context!! Sam is the only true top class back we have got.God wrote:Sam was poor. I think the critisism from other fans and so called media experts has done its job.
Hes another player either trying too hard or c.b.a
Winning and loosing is down to the team as a whole. Forwards need to give the backs the room to play in and the backs need to create and score tries. The forwards, in my view, are clearly not doing their jobs.

Re: Sam
sam did have a poor game, but he's got to be carrying all sorts of knocks. Plus he's the best returner of kicks in Super League and the's getting closed down a lot quicker. I think he jus needs to know when to pass sometimes, they cant all be wonder tries.
Re: Sam
I cant believe the critiscism being directed at Sam over one poor performance. The Kid is Human not Bionic .Any team in the world would take him off our hands and if he retired in the morning he would go down as a wigan Legend .The Fact is our forwards got Battered so made no inroads for the back line to operate ,our halves we re poor no structure at all ,sam must have been sick and tired of running the ball in allafternoon and not being backed ,thats why he started to pass .stop slating him ,you d cry in your beer if we lost him .
Re: Sam
I didn't think he that bad a game. Thought he was one of the top 3 players for us.
Must have watched a different match :conf:

Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured. Rugby League players spend 80 minutes pretending they're not.

Agree totally with you, yokozuna.
What did he do wrong ?
Couldn't find a fault defensively, and only his disallowed try on the debit side and that because he was testing & probing all the way to the line, surrounded by three or four Saints defenders.
If he's called having a bad game because he's not scored another 75 metre try, or beaten half a side in the process, then tough.
Some folk are just never happy - remember, it's so easy from the stands or from your armchair !
Re: Sam
Of course it is easy to talk etc etc BUT
V Saints was not one of Sam's best games. Far from it. V Wire was similarly not one of his best games. These are 2 teams he has been outstanding against previously.
It would be unrealistic to expect him to be outstanding in every game but there is no denying v Wire and Saints, his passing was poor, he often tooked the wrong option running rather than passing and the lost ball over the try line v Saints was an awful mistake which came perhaps from a touch of arrogance. Do what you want once you have scored BUT before that hold the ball tight, 2 hands if need be abd get the try.
No player is perfect, no player never made mistakes
From an armchair RL fan, the majority!
