jolleymike wrote:Tiredness had nothing to do with tonight's game mistakes cost us the match simple fact, and contrary to you previous post I don't come on here to just winge, I'm a Wigan share holder and proud to be called a Wigan fan, and even followed them whilst serving taking the queens shilling for 16 years service.
Tonight we didn't take our chances and the two players I've previously mentioned made the mistakes that cost us the game, Joel bombed two tries and Farrell gave away two penalties that led on the stains scoring.
In the first 15 mins we had every opportunity to take the game away from stains and due to the errors we lost field position that led to stains gaining yard to score during that set of six, watch the game again and then tell me if joel had scored those two tries we wouldn't have won the game
Actually Sam would have scored the first try 'Joel bombed' as you put it. Sam did not need to have passed that ball at all. I have no idea what your military service adds to your argument and why you mention it i'm at a loss.
Joel didn't have a good game, neither did Farrel, Hoffman knocked on at least once and gave away a couple of penalties, Coley threw a high tackle, George knocked on, Pat bombed a pass he should have taken, Prescott stood offside,in fact everyone did things wrong. It all got Saints some field position and denied us the ball and they played better and won. Get over it and move on.
It's a fair comment that the cup disrupts the season finale of the grand final play off's, I would be a supporter of the challenge cup being played earlier in the season, the two playoffs and finals come to close together financially for most people to afford, for me it was either wembley or old Trafford, the rfl should take a look at when the games are played and if we the supporters can afford it.
I think by timing the CC final and play offs as they are, the RFL are getting exactly what they want. A different team winning each trophy, in their mind they're spreading the success around.
I think it's now a choice of winning one or the other, to win both you'd need a squad with exceptional strength in depth.
So my first comment stands stupid mistakes cost us the game and the first of these came from Joel, had he scored those two sitters then who knows, and as for the comment on my military service the if you've served you would know how much it means to have something to look to to bring Wigan back to were you are in the world weather that be NI Bosnia Iraqi or Afghanistan, that's how much this club means to me
Oh and also Leeds had to do without McGuire and Peacock for the start of the season, McGuire is just hitting form and in to his stride.
We need a couple of newer ideas in attack but take nothing away from what our lads have done in the past 2 years. I for one am not gonna bag any players.
Oh and just to add some weight to my arguement, I've been to Afghanistan.
I think we all need to rewind a little, I'm happy to have won the CC final I'm disappointed not to reach the grand final for the second year running, it's even harder to swallow that stains stopped that run, but to be fair we have been very lucky to get were we have. The club has moved on leaps and bounds under mr Maguire and I'm sad to see him leave, I just hope that mr lenegan put his money behind Shaun Wayne, my next move would be two props and a centre. Pack sets the platform for finchy n tommy to go forward. Bring on 2011 I'll be there.

REALLY!?!

"But look at, look at Lydon go here...Remniscent of those two great tries when he won the Lance Todd... He's got Hanley inside him. He's going all the way..........."
Correct, am sure people dont study a game sometimes and see who make the errors. Coley Farrell and Joel were bad tonight. What surprised me was we didnt give a penalty away until the 18 minute of the game.
yoda warrior wrote:Wish people would stop using Leeds as an example of how fresh we should be. Winning a cup final is different to losing one. Players have that pressure and expectation on them at the start of the season to win a trophy. When any team wins the cup final a lot of that pressure is released and there is obviously a big celebration. I think its been proven since the cup final was moved to August that regaining that focus in a few weeks before the play offs is very difficult, while the team that loses at Wembley goes immediately back to work with something extra to prove.
It is going to be very hard for anyone to do the double again with the way the season is set up.
I think you are completely wrong. If the goal was to win the cup and the GF then that release of pressure you mention would only occur after the GF. Winning the cup would be one part of the jigsaw not an end in itself. So if there was any such release of pressure after the CC final it was down to the wrong attitude of being happy with a job half done.
I witnessed the "mission impossible season" and it included winning the league and then immediately getting up for the premiership playoffs. Back then the team clearly had a goal of a clean sweep and so there was no luxury of taking the foot off the gas after winning the league. In the current era a team will come along with the right attitude and do the double because just as that Wigan side had a goal of a clean sweep back then they will set out to do the double and won't be distracted by getting the first of the two trophies. We had that attitude in that season I mention (and others) so I reckon the CC hangover idea is just another trendy excuse alongside being tired. CC hangovers should last one game at most.
IMO given Wire got knocked out we should have been able to retain the title and if a CC hangover was why we didn't then this team are still some way off recapturing the Wigan way Wane and Rads talk about.

You don't know a thing about me, but if you want to turn this into a p***ing contest I spent 22 years in the British Army mate. You and me certainly are not the only two people on here with a service record, and it certainly doesn't qualify anyone to make stupid comments on an unrelated subject.
I saw lots of mistakes from lots of players and it certainly isn't fair to heap all the blame on two people.
