But the best team in Super League went out last night. They should be wearing the crown for their achievements this year. As it is, the teams that finished first and second find their seasons over.

More worryingly, the team that finished 5th after being largely shite all season could win next week and all next year make us put up with 'That's why we're Champions!'

And this is so very very wrong!
Strangely enough I had never thought of it like this Kittwazzer - it is an excellent point, well made. I have no complaints about our actual defeat last night, we have had a great run and stumbled and fell at the last hurdle but would far rather go out with some dignity to a young(ish) Saints squad who are now playing well than not have anything to give in the final and get humiliated by Leeds but, as you rightly say, that sort of thing is not the problem it is the basic system which is wrong. Just wish the RFL would make a separate small comp which could involve all teams and scrap these "play off's" but they won't of course because "this is what they do in Aus" yawn yawn. Whatever happened to the Brits being inivotive
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Totally missing the point.

Nobody whinged last year because we finished top of the League AND won the GF. When we sang 'Championes' we sang it with total conviction.

Next year, a team who have had a mediocre season at best could be singing 'That's why We're Champions' from 5th place having hit form for the last 4 games out of 31

Its laughable!
Not missing the point at all. We weren't good enough after wembley and its no use blaming the system now weve lost. Lets regroup and focus on next year

If you look back to last season and if you look back to this I have been consistent and I said it here unless you win the League, the GF IMO is a hollow victory. I also said my view is a minority view and that if Wigan did not win the league but won the GF then it would be cheapened.

British RL has huge issues and until every fixture matters most of those issues will never be solved. Many/Most will disagree BUT the champions are the team that finishes first and promotion/relegation should be reinstated.

'But the best team in Super League went out last night. They should be wearing the crown for their achievements this year.'

But you seem to forget that they have the league winners trophy which for me is the one that really you have to earn and IS the crown for their achievements. Why worry about the RFL's Aussie inspired pride and joy which rewards anyone who turns up at the end of the season.

But its called the Minor Shield. This deliberately lessens it in peoples minds. Look back at RL records since 1895 you will find each years Champions and CC Winners. Who remembers the Championship playoffs, which has now been elevated to the be all and end all?

For the RFL / SKY and most fans the league is meaningless. I hate it and believe that is why you got Noble arguing you could play poorly for all but the end of the season which IMO renders your competyition pointless / meaningless.

Only to put a traditional spin on this but the clue's in the name. It's the SuperLEAGUE. Warrington have won it this season but the records will show that either Saints or Leeds are champions.
I think that both those teams deserve to be in the GF but I don't think they should be crowned champions.

I'd personally like to go back to a premiership trophy at the end of the regular season with a double header at Old Trafford. Those days out were great and I think it'd be a fairer representation of the season as a whole. And it gives a NL1 side the chance to play at OT.

But it doesn't suit Sky so it won't happen.

"But look at, look at Lydon go here...Remniscent of those two great tries when he won the Lance Todd... He's got Hanley inside him. He's going all the way..........."

5th is the new 1st under this system put all you eggs in the CC and plod along in the league. That way you get a easy ride in the first play off game.

I dont know the relevant facts but i think this is the first time someone from 5th has got to the GF. It would be interesting to find out since the GF was introduced what position each winner came in the league for that year
