firstly - counting thing werent funny, n i stand by it, i have lost count because i dont watch the game with a pen and paper, unlike you who im guessing doesn't any games except wigans.
Correct, I've not had access to Sky for 3-4 years and the only alternative rugby near me is the rubbish they serve up at the Willows or at Swinton. If I only see Wigan it's because I don't have any choice. As for the pen and paper, even I'm not that sad! I do know some people who do scribble stuff in their programmes!
secondly - you cannot blame our props for not tackling earl, as he makes breaks in most games he plays
As I said, I was less impressed with him this time than I had been in the past. He looked a lot more dangerous when Hudds visited last year. He *could* be a very useful player, but he's not there yet and I'm still not convinced he makes full use of his height advantage as often as he should. On more than one occasion he was stopped dead having made all of about 2 metres, although that's about 2 metres more than Seuseu seems to make most weeks.
and finally - shirley crabtree one of the most famous wrestlers of all time, speaks for itself that he has talent, and dont get me started on wrestling, because all your rugby, n i will confess im a wrestling geekk
Going across the pond, "Hollywood" Hogan is just about the biggest wrestling name there is, but he's hardly the most talented. A big, strong bloke who could take a lot of punishment in his prime, but with a very limited repetoire of moves. Most famous doesn't mean most talented, but I think more like biggest showman instead, and very good with people, very fan-friendly. Big Daddy was entertaining in his way, mostly because of his rivalry between the similarly built Giant Haystacks, but you won't convince me either of them had real talent other than knowing how to take advantage of the fact they weighed 35 stone each. Similarly, there are technically superb wrestlers in the American sport who could wipe the floor with the more successful Hogan, but who are told not to so that he doesn't do any more damage to his body than has already been done. Not a wrestling geek, but interested enough to know a bit about it.

So GeoffN you're saying any Aussie who doesn't make the Origin teams is second rate? I wouldn't mind that 2nd rate centre at Saints!!

Brett Kimmorley has just been dropped - does that mean he isn't good enough for a big contract over here :sly:
which is why I said "feels he isn't good enough" rather than "isn't selected". Once one of their top players is permanently out of the reckoning (and Kimmorley isn't, yet) they generally become the "over the hill" Aussies that we usually get, and that Mo gets so much stick for signing.
If they don't think they're in contention, then yes, I would say they're second rate, as they're out of the top, say, 50 or so.
Admittedly, second rate Aussies are better than most first rate SL players, but the point I was trying to make (by highlighting Lam and Smith as not being Aussies) is that we've traditionally done better going for Kiwis or 'Kolpak' Islanders. NZ internationals can, and do, come to SL without losing their international chances.

and Furner i cannot remember us brining in a Quality player from Oz who made an impact here even Renouff was not the same as he was at the Broncos. I do not disagree with you that we need local talent but it must be quality and not numbers as it is now.
Partly because of the reduced quota, partly because the top Aussies will not lose their chances of Origin/Test selection. None of the SL clubs have a top quality Aussie, by definition.
The lack of quality from the NRL has happened after the inagural grand final. We gave away too many big contracts to Faz, Connolly and someothers and that has taken us back.
Because of the change to summer rugby, making our season coincide with the NRL. What's the difference between big contracts to Faz, Rads etc. and big contracts for an Aussie that feels he isn't good enough for Origin selection, and is thus, by definition, second rate? Wherever the quality comes from, it has to be paid for with a big contract, otherwise it isn't quality - you get what you pay for in SL, as in everything else.
The point re: contracts was they amount of big contracts that went out over 3-5 years ago crippled us in the transfer market. We should have let one or 2 big names go then and not let things get rundown as they have today. The likes of Bradford and Saints are far better than us in the transfer market and have been for approching 6-7 years. The only time we recruited well was the off season before the innagural grand final season started.

Apart Orr when did we last sign at that time a class British player or a player from Abroad playing in the SL.

Look at Sculthorpe British talent signed from a British club. If as DW says money is no object and we take it that Faz was one of the highest paid player in Sl as well as one of the best then why the hell have we not been at least linked if not in the process of getting a class replacement from within the SL. We had a huge salary to give to a major SL star.

What do we get we get an ageing NRL forward again and a winger come fullback that none of us have hardly heard of. Its beggining to look like we are not the biggest team in SL interms of money or prestige from abroad anymore. Leeds signs a Gareth Ellis and Ali Lauititi both very good players yet we do not get any players of this quality anymore.

We get linked with every good player in the NRL over the past few years.

Andrew Johns
Brett Kimorley
Sonny Bill Williams
Ali Lauititi
Jason Cayless
Stacy Jones

Were becoming the Spurs of Rugby:

Were linked with all the best players but we get none, but for over the hill NRL players who are after a pay day. Seu Seu has become slightly disapionted. Ill resererve judgement on Vaeliki as the backs we have are been starved of decent ball at times. We got Davico with a serious injury and what did we do instead of asking Craig Smith to stay up for a few months just in case he does not heal. We get rid of Smith and Davico has to retire.

And where is Smith now i wonder. Its time for DW and especially MO to put up or sell i feel we are well on the way to mediocrity if things carry on. If we do not get better players in the next season or 2 then we had better get used to being where we are today.

We have the best coach in the game today. Given the right players he will succed but with or recent past of poor siginings even he will struggle to get us into the top 6. We have had a disaster with injuries and it is still going on but even if we had all the present squad fit were no match for the top 3.
