Sky Commentary

We didn't have any Sky commentary on our tv but we got the what the ref was saying anybody else have the same?

Our commentary was weird. The commentators were only coming out of one speaker and sounded like they were in the corner of the room.

But the crowd and the ref were coming out of both speakers.

Best comment of the day was Bentham to Sam when his shorts were pulled down...

"Put it away Sam"

Eddie was frankly quite pathetic. We dominated from start to finish and won quite convincingly. Yet he didnt stop telling us that the turning point in the match was the Hock/Perry penalty incident. The guy is a joke.

On return from the match, and watching the rerun we heard the Sky team rabbit on, nad, brian Carney shooting down Eddie and Stevo a few times by stating the facts of the match instead of what they wanted the viewers to hear.

Regards what you could hear on the Sky presentation: When Charnley was making his run-up to kick the goal after one of the tries, you could quite clearly hear Bentham say "Time off"!

Was that in the rules of the game?

I'm sure he kicked the goal, but, what if he had missed it because of the distraction?

By the way I think he had a decent game, probably because we have won!

The minute Wigan started winning, Eddie started bleating about Lomax and Wellens. He repeated it at intervals right through and then added the 'Hock penalty' to his repertoire.Hardly mentioned our losses - Sean, Lee, Liam, Pat, Luaki for starters. He does this every time his beloved Saints lose - what a prat.

At least John Wells actually came out and said how good Wigan were.

Even the sad excuse that is the Sky comedy slapstick team could not dull my long range enjoyment of that match.
They really are quite a blight on the name.

I've long said that Eddie & Stevo should be nowhere near a commentary box. It's bad that they're biased towards "whoever's playing wigan", but what's worse is their general lack of knowledge of the modern day game. I expect a commentator to read the game as it occurs, not blight the audio space with drivel about how good the losing team are, and about how great Warrington do....

Someone on this board, or RLFans said that they were convinced that RefCall was attached to the Sky commentary because quite often what Eddie & Stevo says goes, even if there is no corrolation to the game itself... i.e. Jack Hughes' stolen try yesterday, I fail to see how Eddie, Stevo and James Child could not see clearly that a ball shaped object attached to Hughes' arm, touched the ground... bearing in mind Hughes still had hold of said ball shaped object when he resurfaced, how could this be a no try? Unless Meli (?) and Hughes have Ball shaped protrusions from their bodies... but Eddie & Stevo said straight away before they even saw the reply "that's a no try"...

While we're on the subject of No Tries.... Darryl's "No Try Penalty Attack", surely Penalty Try here...

The whole "Hock moving four/five/six steps (It kept going up didn't it?) off the mark" nonsense amused me greatly. When the ref blew the penalty I genuinely thought it was because of Perry's interference as Gaz tried to bend to play the ball and Perry kept hold and moved away.
Gaz was brilliant in the face of constant provocation from Perry. He held his temper, whereas last year he would have knocked Perry on his @r$e.
