The statement is libellous and Hock has a cast iron case against Wikipedia!

I contacted the club early this morning & they are looking into it. They may be able to complain to Wikwiki & try to trace the IP address.

Wikipedia - No case to answer. It's a site editable by anyone, just like this forum. However, Wiki can be forced to release records to the police including IP address, the IP address can be tracked to the ISP, and by the date/time to the Router that the contribution was made from.

There's no amendments to current laws needed to obtain that information. I just hope that the club dont brush it off and say "ah well, it's one of those things".

I reckon that to get anywhere, ideally Gaz Hock needs to pursue the person who posted the rubbish on Wikipedia. Possibly the club can act on his behalf.
Even so, it would mean a civil solicitor investigating as I don't think it's a criminal matter. This would cost money and even if the IP address was traced, it may show that while the internet account is registered to one person, were they the person that posted the information? If it's a family computer, any amount of people could have used it.

Even if all this was successful, what kind of a punishment is someone likely to get?

I really think the most that can be hoped for is that the info is removed. I'm sure Wikipedia will be more than happy to do this and/or pursue the matter themselves.

To me it's a bit of a lose - lose situation.
