Premier League regulations mean the game would be unable to be staged at the DW just 24 hours before the Latics game - but Whelan says a Friday night slot would provide an ideal solution.

The Latics kick off is at 1500 Sunday. Surely a 1300 kick off for our derby would have the game finished by 1500.This would be 24 hours before...Problem solved

Not meaning to pick your post apart particularly as you are new, but Premier League regulations do not mention a 24 hour rule.
The stumbling block with the second point is that the BBC won't budge on the Saturday kick off time. If they would we wouldn't be having this discussion.

BBC radio Manchester just been talking about this and it's up for discussion on the Rugby League show tomorrow night . According to the Radio Presenter I think it's Jack Deardon this 24 hour notice is a myth and if you check the Premier League rules it is not obligatory. If true it means that it could be waived by Whelan if he wished. So it sounds like bull s''t from Latics Dave

The problem is that as long as we continue to ground share this will continue to happen. I really think the time has come to build a stadium of our own. Warrington, Stains, Salford have managed it why can't we.

I really do agree that the only way to prevent this ever cropping up again is to have a stadium of our own but the main problem is £££££££

Apologies if it is at odds with some loyal fans but...not the broadcasters fault, everyone knew the score and are happy to take the BBC money, not the fans fault they want to play in the marquee game, not Saints fault (see previous thread), not the RFL fault, not Sky fault.......every other team in that draw could fulfill this fixture, why should everyone else bend over backwards to accommodate Wigan's predicament? Sorry but the problem is Wigan Warriors, surely this was always going to be a potential draw, can't believe it has come as a massive surprise to the powers that be? BBC have bought the rights to choose their game, no other fault than the arrangement between the club and the landlord. Sorry guys, not much sympathy across the RL community which is a shame cos it may be the fans who suffer?

Still nothing concrete but I suppose no news is good news. I've also been told that Whelan has given us the green light to play on the Saturday but I can't vouch for the pedigree of my informant.

On that basis, we would have been equally stuffed if we had been asked to play Sunday. Surely that can't be right? It could have been Huddersfield or Hull in the same boat, so presumably at least those clubs will be empathetic.
Why does the BBC insist on this being shown live? They could re run the Friday game, give it top and tailing and deep analysis and still get the same audience (though fewer Saints fans who wouldn't bear to watch the rerun). that's what they do for the play offs etc.
