My Broken Guts (part 2)

Hello all. I've been a bit quiet on here recently, largely because I've been in Hospital for a load of tests in the last week. And after two major operations (and a minor one) and countless Hospital admissions in relation to my Crohn's disease, today I've been told that I have bowel cancer.

The reasons for writing this on here are largely because I find talking/communicating about it quite therapeutic and although I've not met many of you, there are several opinions I trust. A healthy dose of TonyH's positivity wouldn't go a miss either.

The good news is that it can and will be treated and with any luck I'll be cancer free in the next 6 months.

So here's to the NHS who I have to say have been brilliant and here's to the future. Let's hope for a positive outcome.

My Nan was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer at the age of 83, she is now 86. After a major operation and being in intensive care for a little while (although never in any real danger if that makes sense) she came through it with flying colours and has been all clear ever since, being as healthy as ever. As I write this she is playing in the garden with her great grandson, my son of course and she has never been happier.

Kiwi, if she can fight it then so can you, best wishes with everything, be strong and keep smiling.

My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer when he was 72. After an operation, he was completely clear of cancer and ten years later he's been healthy ever since and he's still cheering the Rhinos on with as much gusto as ever.

Thanks for all the lovely posts. As I said, talking, communicating and generally expressing how I feel about this illness is for me the best therapy. It's also good to hear how many people have beaten this. The positives are that I'm 34yrs old and have a massively supportive family. There is no good reason why I can't beat this (just like we beat Saints in the first game at Langtree Park)

And whilst trying to keep a sense of humour about this, I remember that Dennis Potter had pancreatic cancer and infamously told Melvyn Bragg in an interview that he called his cancer Rupert because he despised Rupert Murdoch.

So...... I think 'Lee Briers' is how I shall refer to my cancer from now on
