Re: Brett Finch to Leave Wigan
Godd luck Finchy. You can go out winning.
Lenegan needs to get this sorted NOW. Let's not keep the paying punters waiting on this. We, the supporters, need to know who is going to replace the best half back pairing we have had for a good while, and we need to know sooner rather than later.
And although I do rate Matty Smith, he will need an experienced partner for a couple of seasons at least.
Hi ho, it's off to Aus Lenagan should go...

Unless you were privy to the negotiations, how do you know that question wasn't asked? Do you think IFL got to where he is without knowing how to ask the right questions?DaveO wrote: There is subtle difference to the questions "What contract are you after?" and "What can we do to make you stay?". You have to at least ask the last question given the situation we find ourselves in even if you have to say no in the end.

That's because we have the best players. We are no different to any other club in that situation.DaveO wrote:
I suppose what I am trying to say is our club does not seem to know how to hold onto its best players at the moment.
Stains lost Eastmond and Fat Prince Harry. 3/4 of the Burgess brothers are now down under. Tom Briscoe is destined the same way.

Business men don't go through life without ever making a single mistake. Every man has his price, and whether your privy to negotiations or not, that price was obviously not met otherwise he would be staying.Kittwazzer wrote:

Most people who think about their future hang their hats on what's the best deal now, not on speculation about what may happen if they move down the road. Cash is king whichever business you may be in

Only for those of very limited intelligence. Planning for the future is something everyone has to do, especially those with a family to think of.i'm spartacus wrote:Business men don't go through life without ever making a single mistake. Although agree losing all these players is a loss, we will continue. Look at last year when hoff went or further back when Trent went, our team is built in a large squad we will be here long after the players at present we are Wigan warriors the pride of rugby come on. This season is our focus as fans, after winning everything this year what will be will be.

IMO this is only the second mistake made by waney since his promotion to head coach, the first being underestimating a rubbish widnes side and dropping 5 or 6 key players, and the finch fiasco being his second. finch said he wanted to extend his contract at the beginning of the season however wane waited to see how his form would be, to help his decision on whether or not to renew his contract and finch could hardly of played better tbh, but to be fair finch has given his all in every single match and wants to finish his career in is own country.

So why didn't Leeds pay this price?Kittwazzer wrote:That's because we have the best players. We are no different to any other club in that situation.DaveO wrote:

They are the most successful side in the SL era and a big reason they have been is they managed to keep the squad together.
We might laugh at their current squad is getting taken to the cleaners as it ages but just look at the length of time the likes of Burrows, McQuire, Sinfield and Peacock have been there and look what they won while they have been.
Have they ever lost both first choice half backs, their best prop and best centre in one go? Nope.

I think you are right that if the offer had been made earlier in the season Finch would be here next year.12webbl wrote:IMO this is only the second mistake made by waney since his promotion to head coach, the first being underestimating a rubbish widnes side and dropping 5 or 6 key players, and the finch fiasco being his second. finch said he wanted to extend his contract at the beginning of the season however wane waited to see how his form would be, to help his decision on whether or not to renew his contract and finch could hardly of played better tbh, but to be fair finch has given his all in every single match and wants to finish his career in is own country.

I also read this in March:
http://www.wiganwarriors.com/WContent.a ... type=news
"I'd definitely like to extend my stay here, but I understand Wigan have got plenty of young fellas coming through - local players as well - and they might want to head in a different direction.
"I'll just play it by ear. I'm enjoying my time here and I'd certainly give Wigan the opportunity if they want to keep me."
Once a player has decided to move there will be justifications for it but IMO it is no coincidence these justifications and reasons for leaving often only surface after the event when prior too it they were saying they wanted to stay.
Wigan should have had him nailed on in March.
Re: Brett Finch to Leave Wigan
A lot of the Leeds players play for the jersey and could earn more money at other clubs. You can't keep players by giving them what they want as teams would exceed the cap. You have to give them enough and trophy chances the rest is up to the individual.
