How do you explain Wane, during one of the televised matches, shouting to Harris to tell Gelling to sort his positioning out, or he's coming off? That was shown on the big screen and clear for everyone to see. Maybe you can see more than Wane!? :conf:highland convert wrote:I can only interpret what I see. I see a winger on the shoulder of his centre and the pass is ten yards behind him but it is Gelling out of position. I have watched with amazement as Pat in the same position as gelling receive pass after pass and become top try scorer. Those are facts. Whether the failure is centre or winger based I have no idea. George as the experienced player appears to have written Gelling off as not worth the bother. If it were easy we all could catch every ball. Does he drop more than anyone else. I doubt it. But every one is logged. Does SW rate him. Obviously. You are doing the same to him as you have done to others. The facts fit your agenda. You have a player to trash and he will be hounded until he leaves. I watched Gleeson do exactly the same thing to Carney in oz a few years back. It happens. Two players don't gel. On balance Gelling has done more right than wrong but that is by the way. Have a look down the back trail. How many have been hounded out only to prove they were far better than they were given credit for. Where was I wrong about Barrett. We have been a far better team since he left? Gelling / Thornley

Then you are clearly seeing something that no other Wigan fan can.highland convert wrote:I can only interpret what I see. The worst part of Gelling's game is his positioning in attack. Too often he is too far back, too far forward or too close to the touch line. He has bombed a lot of chances on the occasion I have seen him play - which is frustrating to see someone with potential make basic errors.
However, the idea that people are calling for him to be kicked out is nonsense, they have merely suggested that other players should be given a chance. Shouldn't they? Has Gelling done enough to guarantee himself a first team spot no matter what? Everyone likes Gelling enthusasm; however he is still very raw and far from the finished article.
What about Thornley? King? Do they not deserve a chance?
You were wrong with Barrett in as much as he was playing in weaker team than we currently have under a vastly inferior coach (Noble) which was why we didn't win anything - despite his best efforts. The after effects of Barrett can been seen in the work he did with our younger players; which we are reaping the benefits of. But of course, that just happens to be a coincidennce according to you and Barrett was intent of causing dissent in the changing room. Unless you think that everyone else bar you is an idiot, then do you not think it strange that no one agrees with you? Why? Are we all blinkered fools?
The problem here appears to me to be that once you make an opinion about something, you refuse to change it, despite all evidence to the contary. From your username; I doubt you have much day to day contact with the club; let alone get to/see every game (highlights aside) - not that I am criticising you for that - as I am in the same boat; however you come out with a lot of leftfield ideas/opinions and are usually in a minority of one.
If memory serves, you had a crack at Sam the other week (saying he had been "dropped"!) - and frankly I am starting to wonder if you even like this club, much less want it to win anything.

Re: Gelling out, Thornley in.
I sort of agree with Jim re Carmont.
Re: Gelling out, Thornley in.
Gelling is doing ok probably b+
A young lad with great potential who has stepped up to the mark in a new set-up with little fuss, wane will select him no problem.Personally every time he gets an oppertunity you want him to do well .At the moment he is the joker in the pack could be MOM against leeds on saturday who knows!!!!!!

Jim;
1). You watch a small % of Wigan games
2). You have very limited understanding of RL
Gelling is a centre / second rower doing his best as a winger. As a winger he is very poor.

Re: Gelling out, Thornley in.
I agree cp regarding centre and 2nd row being the best position for him however Jim does have a point re ball distribution.
Carmont can throw some howlers even when it's paddy outside of him, now it's just magnified because gelling doesnt have a wingers instinct or positioning.
The amount of times I think jesus paddy that was a good catch on the way to a try or a break through but George gets away with his accuracy then because paddys world class but now georges accuracy coupled with gellings poor positioning is being highlighted.
Unlike Jim I'm not having a go on the whole George is a good centre and with a good winger becomes a better whole.
There you go that's my constructive view point.

It is bull like that CP that has driven the posters off this site. I have retired after 40 years in man management and motivation both in sport and the workplace. If your comments on here reflect your attitude in your workplace I am glad you are not one of my tutors. Take your blinkers off and you might learn something, Jim

Posters come and go as they see fit. Last time I looked the site was unchanged in popularity as it ever was.
Carmont is a quality centre; Gelling is a makeshift winger. The discussion ends there.

Re: Gelling out, Thornley in.
And some can teach for a living and steal a wage. RL is not rocket science and when a player or players do not gel it does not take genius to spot it. But then again you see individuals rather than a team. And the more you can do to destroy them the happier you are. The difference with you and me is I would rather praise than condemn.
Re: Gelling out, Thornley in.
So you are suggesting that we should drop our best and most consistent centre for the last ten years, in order to find someone who gels with a player who has been playing in the team for less than half a season and is not playing in their preferred position? And will be replaced when one of the first choice wingers and place kicker returns?
Why don't we just stick Lockers at centre?
I don't always agree with everything he says; but CP is right on this one; you're way off
