My mate is a diehard Saints fan and he is convinced Matty Smith will.be a star at Wigan even though it was hard for him to admit

I think it's being very unfair to judge a player until he's had a chance to gel with next years team!
Wait and see methinks.

People having an opinions on a player we sign based on how he went for his old club are surely valid opinions to express and quite fair.BriH wrote:I think it's being very unfair to judge a player until he's had a chance to gel with next years team!

If we signed a world class Aussie people would be very excited and not saying lets not judge him until he is in the side.
I think the "lets not judge a player until he is in the side" type of comment is code for "he is an average player and I hope Wane can work a miracle"

It does Waney got it wrong! Picking Lockers at hooker was madness.DaveO wrote:Is Smith as good as Tommy? No.
He is just another player replacing a better one who has left.
Smith is OK but when Wane picks him at hooker and plays the NZ hooker at scrum half when we lose our no. 1 hooker, that should tell you something.

Cooper-Cronk would have looked poor behind our pack in the second half of the season. Let's not forget that this is a team sport and for Wigan to be successful every player needs to do their bit. It is a simple game that some want to make hard. Melbourne are not a group of superstars but they do the basics well and more often than not that puts you in a position to win trophies. In the early part of the season we ran harder, tackled harder and were fitter than our opposition. Our defensive line speed was outstanding, last Friday Leeds did to us what we had done to them earlier in the season at Headingly - they gave us little room to play in. Unfortunately, when we were on top our halves didn't have the skill to win us the game!
I am not worried about Smith, I am more concerned whether our forwards can cut the mustard. If they out-perform the opposing six then we are in for a good season. If not we are for a long season!

Danny Orr was a very good halfback who unfortunatly for us and him got stuck with a very poor one in Moran and we never got to see the best of him. When Moran left Orr's Game improved by 300%.
