Is a forward what we really need?
Yes he is good, and could really add value, but we are weak at center, have no cover at half back / Hooker if injuries occur.
Currently if we have injuries at fullback, scrum half, standoff, hooker, center we have no obvious no.2 in any of those positions.
I appreciate that there are juniors waiting in the wings, but, but an international sat on the bench is always preferred.
SW seenms to like buying props, his old position (as we all know), over areas of weakness.
Sorry to be negative about a potential good signing, but I do have concerns here.

Jules- Of course there is cover for the positions you mention, why the Doom and Gloom?
As for having an international on the bench, heaven forbid. He should play at all costs

I'm just looking at the strength in depth. Prop is covered by 4 seasoned pro's even before we sign anyone else. Second row has 2 full internationals, with Farrell in the GB squad, and Hughes etc to come in. LF is covered nicely with SOL as no.1, Farrell to cover etc.

Forwards have strength in depth, in center, we have Goulding and then unproven options for the second slot before we get to cover for injuries.
Stand Off + scrum half cover is non existant from an experience perspective as is full back.

I fully accept that injuries brought Charnley to the first team quicker than was probably planned, and how well that has turned out. But we cannot guarantee that every player that steps up will be another charnley.

Recruitment to me is simple, where are we weak / lack cover.
