Are people going for Foster because he is a good kicker?

I think we need to separate the two issues. We need a top class winger to replace Pat and we need a good kicker.

Smith was a a good footballer in his youth and with practice I would suggest could become a good goal kicker. This may not be the solution but to look for a winger who is top notch and expect him to kick goals as consistently as PR is asking too much.

Never knew Matty Smith played football

Lineham shows huge potential

Down the line, if he can improve his defence, Burgess is a very exciting winger in our academy ranks

Or will we look down under for a marquee signing? We will certainly have the money and the cap space!
The problem I have with this statement is the suggestion that we might need a goal kicking left winger. We need a good winger. That's the priority. We can't be signing sub par players simply because they can kick goals. Foster has never been good enough to be a regular in a top side. He has no outstanding attributes other than his goalkicking.
He's fairly quick, has decent footwork and reasonable handling. He has little to no physical presence and is a liability when it comes to being challenged in the air.
He just hasn't got what we need.

When it comes to replacing Pat we might just have to go for a young player with potential. Most teams in Super League seem to be doing that and it's probably more sensible than trying to sign a winger from overseas.
I am not saying he is world class but I think Foster is better than you give him credit for. Lest we forget we put a player on the wing largely because of his place kicking ability, Frano Botica!

There are not many good wingers around but there are plenty of average performers that can do a solid job whilst the likes of Burgess progress to SL level. We do have the cap space and the purchasing power so it will be interesting to see what happens. Maybe the sollution is to promote Gelling and allow Burgess to play intermitantly throught 2014.

I have previously posted but it has to be Tom Briscoe all day long.

Yes, Jamie Foster can kick a ball but he can't tackle for toffee and he is scaed of his own shadow.

I am sure that with practice Matty Smith could take over Pat's duties.

Jamie Foster, please. USELESS

How far off is Ryan Hampshire? From his 13 from 13 the other week I would have thought he would have been potential kicking back up for Matty Smith, so in that sense we would be looking for a winger who can attack and defend and don't need to worry about a kicker. Would Ryan also be the player to replace Sam when he eventually goes.
What I understand from reading on here and what we've seen this year, we have,
S. Powell, G. Williams and R. Hampshire all nearly ready to step up to 1st choice halves and put pressure on Matty and Blake.

IMO Foster offers nothing we can't already fill.
Alex Brown at KR had me thinking he has good strength and speed but is susceptible defensively, but I wondered if this could be worked on. I then checked his bio on KR's site and at 25 and with his history, Keighly, Giants, Sale, Batley, I think it is too late for him.
Kieran Dixon, Craig Hall, Justin Carney or Jodie Broughton would probably be where I would look from what is around other SL Clubs as there is no way we could convince Ryan Hall to come over.
